Hypnosis can be useful

This polish rooster was the alpha male, and a real jerk to all my other chickens. I learned how to hypnotize chickens once and thought i'd give it a try.

He didn't necessarily become docile after that, but it was like taking the thorn out of the lion's paw. He wouldn't attack unless provoked.

The method is simple really. Place a chicken upside down on its back. draw a line in the dust with your finger that's about a foot long and re-trace it quickly. do this about 5 or so times. You will know your chicken is hypnotized when its feet stretch out. It will remain in this position for a while, and when it snaps out of it, it will just turn over and walk away. Sometimes you can even see the rejuvenation in them.

Alternate methods:
Place the chicken upside down on its back and cover its face with your hand. It will think it is night time and suddenly fall asleep.**
Place the chicken upside down on its back while covering its head and run something smooth (a finger, a pencil eraser, etc.) down its sternum (breastbone) several times. When the chicken's feet stretch out it is hypnotized.*
Place a chicken's head under its wing like it is going to bed. bring it around in large circles above your head to your waist in a clockwise direction.**

Its mostly for fun, seeing as it causes no visible pain or discomfort to the bird in any way (unless your birds hate being flipped upside down.) As far as the mechanics of why it makes them more docile after wards, i have no idea. Maybe it relieves stress? Dont quote me on that. I would be interested to know if that works for a stressed hen. If anyone has a stressed hen, see if hypnotizing her will make her lay again. Thats just a shot in the dark seeing if it works or not, but it wont hurt to try!
