I’m back, new eggs on the way!!!

Hello! I got my eggs (two days late thanks to a screw up at the post office they had “no idea why we held this...”) that was frustrating and I was doom and gloom thinking everyone will be DEAD!!!

Of course - no one was dead, these are quail I swear those eggs can survive anything lol

So almost on day 6, and out of 24 eggs received 1 was cracked 1 had a hole.

I incubated ALL after they had a rest, because I have had perfectly healthy chicks hatch from cracked eggs (even with a hole lol)

I have 23 heartbeats today, the cracked egg had leaked a little I figured it was a goner, I tried anyway, but the one with the hole still had a membrane intact and he has a little heartbeat so hopefully he makes it.

I wouldnt have shared them if i minded they are in! I put them in on fri evening, and just didnt use the turner for 24 hrs instead of a cool rest. With just the hr drive they should be fine.

I odered 50 to be shipped to me but they accidently shipped them to CA! Directly from James Marie Farms. So i found out i could pick them up when they contacted me about the error, and he decided to Double the order since i pd for shipping and they made the mistake. Hubby is racing the calander to get the pens built but i couldnt turn them down theyre really top of the line quail. I was expecting around 30 and now its more like 80 whoops!

I lucked up and got that bator off craigslist from someone who moved up to a cabniet.

Oh your other questions sorry i got carried away theyre just the common wild type colors, but theyre James Marie Pharaohs. Their line has had extensive enough work that i believe theyre really superior to any other birds i couldve found locally. I have previously bought from around 4 or 5 diff local people and had terrible luck with really poor stock so i knew this time around as i restart i am going to do it with the best lines i can find/afford. I eat my birds so they could really be an excellent addition to our farm and Table.

We eat ours too, but I also want color lol so I guess I like doing both, I have several “normal” color “sets” I keep for the eggs to hatch for the meat birds. They are pretty good size, then I have some fun birds that I keep for just the fun of having them I guess and hope to sell a lot of eggs this summer. I was selling quite a bit for my small operation last summer/fall but all of mine have quit for now lol

I just sell locally I don’t bother with the shipping or anything except to friends but it’s fun for me to do it locally and meet other quail people as I never leave the house and work as an artist from home and even home school one of my kids lol

I am a stay at home mom, i have three under 2 yrs old until friday so this translates to Hermit and it means i too love the social aspect of the poultry

I like the colors too and i tried the texas AM at one point just for that reason but they didnt do well for me and i cant afford to focus on the beauty right now so i guess ill be living vicariously thru you

How do your egg sell best, as pickled, hatching or eating?

I use the gamebird feed 50lb bags for the babies and adults I sometimes have to throw it in a blender for the first week or two. The crumbles are even a little too big for them.

I have Texas A&M they seem a tiny bit small in size compared to my large browns but when cleaned the meat is the same size and even some were bigger, weird. I did a big Texas hatch last summer and most went to the freezer I kept a few especially ones I found with cute markings lol!

Then I have some California quail but they are just hanging around they are for fun, they scare away predators like a “bird box” lol (book/movie) they behave the same for me lol

Then just the browns that provide mainly food. I have a few that have more unique markings they are layers.

Then I have this mixed batch that’s supposed to include many different colors which some will prob end up in the freezer and the best I’ll keep for breeding colors.

I sell the eggs for whatever people want them for. Sometimes someone just wants a dozen to try instead of chicken eggs, sometimes I have to collect for days to provide a bigger hatch, I got a guy started last year and now he has a huge operation going and he’s certified to sell commercial quail meat so that’s cool cause I know where he started! LOL

My little one is 7 he loves the eggs hard boiled they are his favorite snack!
