ARRGG I am REALLY feeling the frustration.
This has never happened to me before, I’ve hatched shipped eggs, picked up eggs, my own eggs, by day 17 (supposed to be hatch day) I ALWAYS have at least some pipped if not all, and sometimes some have hatched the night of the 16th day, the rest hatch day 17, sometimes day 18.
I have movement but not one pip??!! I mean yeah it’s possible the pips are on the side(s) or areas I can’t see, since they are in the Hovabator I’m looking down not into the sides like the smaller Janoel.
I did everything exactly as I always do with temps and humidity. It’s always the same. I have hatch rates almost at 100% if I have all fertile eggs that develop. Once in a while I lose one.
The only thing I can think is that maybe I had it open too many times but it’s been really not much different but I did check them more because they were shipped - so they would have had to heat back up maybe this has caused a total of 1 day delay. I did think about that early on too. I thought I am going to delay them if I keep checking... I bet I did. If that did happen, which I have no way of knowing because it could be anything maybe they are just being slow who knows with coturnix they can be weird, then that is fine, but I would expect some to be pipped. Besides often I lifted it quickly and only spot checked 3-5 eggs and never left it open except to candle all eggs a few times at night. I don’t like incubating dead things.
Anyway...I can’t find pips, I’ve wasted so much time staring into the incubator that I can tell you exactly what every egg looks like. It’s burned into my brain.
They keep moving and wiggling and even some have almost rolled over, so I think they are just slow. They can’t be dead if they are moving lol.
I’m impatient I guess
I went back and checked all my notes for this machine and the other almost every hatch was night of the 16th into the 17th into the 18th. With very few waiting until day 19.
I did add a bit more humidity now very quickly to be sure. It’s been holding at 80-85 but I thought they would be hatching and making more humidity by this time and they are not. So I added more warm water and it’s up at 90. IF that is the issue I hope it’s not too late but I really don’t see how it could be. I hydrated all the eggs prior to incubation which has really helped hatching by the way, and kept an eye on humidity the whole time.
I’m annoyed.
