I start with chicks, because pullets are not really available around here. They would have to be shipped and I work in 30 miles away, in the opposite direction. It is a 36 minute drive from where I work, to the post office; then 8 minutes to my house to drop the chicks off and 30 minutes back to work. I can't take off work to do all that.
My first batch of chicks, I had one die (she was a runt). My second batch of chicks, I didn't have any die. My third batch of chicks I had 1 die (it was a meat bird and got trampled to death by its buddies at the feeder). My fourth batch of chicks, I had 2 die - those were weird accidental deaths. And so far, this batch of chicks are healthy, happy and none have died.
