I’m interested in raising chickens and much more.

I am Interested in raising chickens. I would like to know about how to get started raising chickens, choosing a chicken breed, building a coop, raising chicks, chicken care and more.
I have some Muscovy ducks chicks, turkeys, guinea fowl and a flock of fancy chickens in my backyard garden.r rai

Probably the first thing to consider is what type of predators you have in your area. Ask someone local who has free range chickens if you don’t know.
What are you prepared to do about the predators in your area? If you intend to coop the chickens and let them into a run it is a mistake to believe they will be safe.

Predators are experts at finding all those weak points in your security system.
Are you thinking about free range or cooped?

Can you make a coop? If not, the number of chickens you can keep will depend on what you can afford in the way of pre built coops.

How much money do you want to spend? Whatever you get they’ll need housing properly, feeding and from time to time they will get sick, or injured, so find a vet near you that will treat chickens.

What’s your climate like? Some breeds do better in the heat, others in the cold.

If it’s very wet and muddy you probably don’t want a booted breed.

My advice is get a single breed; don’t get chickens like you’re in a ‘pick and mix’ sweet shop.

Can you cope with a rooster? Yes it is a serious question. Many think they can only to find the were wrong and the poor rooster gets killed through no fault of its own.

If you aren’t able to take care of the chickens due to holidays, sickness or you get bored of them is there someone who can take your place and are you and they prepared to learn what needs to be done?

You write you have a flock of fancy chickens in your back yard. Are the ‘new’ chickens going to be expected to be the fancy chickens friends, or are you intending to keep them seperate?

Just a things to think about. Yes I have seen you already have livestock.:)

Welcome!
Sounds like you have a lot of bantams...may I recommend d'Uccles? Super sweet, gentle, shy and friendly. And soooo pretty! Mine is the most tame of our chickens and doesn't mind being held or petted. In fact she enjoys it! She is the favorite of everyone who comes to visit because she is so small and pretty as well as super sweet :)
