Hi! New to BYC and want to introduce my babies.
We moved to the remote Nevada desert after spending our lives on the east coast (Florida, Connecticut and Pennsylvania). A friend of ours gave us a home-hatched chick a month ago, and we decided he (she?) needed company. So we got 4 more from TSC 2 weeks later. A week later we added another 4, and then 4 days ago we got our final 3.
- Nelly is our first. No idea of sex yet, we thought we had a roo die to attitude but Nelly’s been super nurturing to his/her new flock of sisters, warming them under his/her wings and generally being the protective leader. We have no idea what breed he is.
- Julia (Golden Laced Wyandotte), Paris and Nicole (Amberlinks) and Winnie (Barred Rock) came next
- Tyla (Rhode Island Red), Stevie and Gaga (Sapphires), and Maude (Easter Egger) followed a week later.
- Gretchen (Polish bantam), Regina (silkie), and Cady (frizzle) rounded out the flock 4 days ago.
Unfortunately, I came upon BYC after searching for info on reviving sick chicks — I am fairly certain Cady won’t make it through the night tonight (she’s very lethargic, doesn’t play like the others, sleeps almost constantly). I am in awe of how much I am grieving for this little baby I just met and came to love.
These chickens are my first chickens, but I am already hooked.
Happy to be here!
