We have two acres to “play in”. I (we, my husband wanted them at first). I had chickens when my daughter was in 4-H about 25 years ago. So it’s been awhile. My husband and I made a chicken house and wired large pen a few years ago.
There are six hens now. The hens look like Rhode Island reds. We were told they were sex-linked.
I love seeing them out there eating, clucking and exploring their environment. I like birds and these are useful pets that lay eggs.
I also sew, quilt and some crafting. When I retired from teacher about five years ago I switched my passion to visiting and caring for my grandkids a few times per week. My husband fishes any day he can so he’s gone a lot. Neither of us wanted indoor pets.
I searched information online about caring for
my flock and found Backyard Chickens to be an informative and friendly community of folks.
