I have never had chickens before and am so excited to begin this journey. My chicks are almost 3 weeks old, from what the lady at the store said. How old should they be before I let them live in their coop? They are inside now.

You have received some good advice up above my post box. But is a short list of factors for the answer to your question:
  • Weather. Location is everything! You might want to include your approximate location in your profile. At least your State. When you are asking an age of outdoor/run free question, their is a major factor difference weather wise between Miami Fl & Alaska in March. So if you are in Miami or the deep south, yes. If you are in the north, no.
  • Size does matter. When it comes to Predators. Large Chickens have a lesser chance of being attacked by "Birds of Prey". A hawk will swoop down for a chicken nugget more often than a Christmas Goose size Chicken. So a covered run is more advantageous for chickens of your age group. WHEN YOU DECIDE TO LET THEM RUN AROUND on fair weather days.
I'm happy that you have made the decision to join this web site. It has so many wonderful things to offer. Great meeting you and good luck with your new little birdies! Best regards..
