We noticed this last night on our 3wk old Gold Laced Wyandotte. It’s crusty to the touch and swells around to the side of her neck. When i feel it there is swelling underneath the scabby dried area, you can roll the area of her neck between your fingers but it doesn’t seem to hurt her. Her crop, vent are, poop, activity level and eating are all normal. None of the other birds have this. We are very new to chicken keeping and don’t know what to do. HELP!

We thought perhaps that was it also...do you think they would all pick on the same chick? Also...it comes around the right side of her neck and feels swollen.

It looks like there has been some feather picking going on, along with dry skin. Can you try to buy some Nustock Cream at a local feed store. That is an opaque bad tasting cream that is antibacterial and antifungal, and healing. If your feed store doesn’t have it in the horse aisle, try online or a hardwear store.

Where are you keeping them? How much space?
Are all the chicks the same age?

I agree, it looks like picking. If you have more photos at different angles that would be good too.

Unfortunately sometimes when one chick becomes a target everyone will join in. If can help to give chicks enough room to run, and not brooding too hot which can increase problems.

Thank you for the recommendation. This would be good to keep on hand!

Thank everyone for the input on my little one....she isn’t getting any worse and the skin isn’t red and swollen anymore. We noticed it as we were moving them into a larger area so...perhaps that helped the picking. We havn’t noticed any one singling her out.
