I’ve decided to get Runner ducks any advice for me?

I also have Corso. I would suggest having him get used to the ducks early. let him smell them up close, pet his face and nose after holding them. Make it part of the routine, they love their routines. My girl is petite at 110lbs but she is ungodly strong as you must know having a good sized male. Make you run and duck house strong enough to withstand him and nothing will get your ducks. involve him and get him to love them and I would feel bad for anything trying to hurt his ducks.

Nothing is very neat and tidy after a winter of repeated snowstorms. I zip tie the blue tarps to the top of the HWC. I also have an old trellis leaning against the run that I plan to brace to vertical about a lawn mower width from the run so I can grow some vines and shield the view of the pen. Things look great when they are brand new, but not as good as time goes by and ducks actually live in them.

Also, I would probably put the duck house outside, but adjoining the run. My house is attached to the back of the run. I built the house first, then built the run attached to it. The house is only half as wide as the run. The back of the house opens completely with two swinging doors for easy cleanout.

Good morning! @Duckworth has given you some great ideas!

I know you're wondering why you have to worry about frostbite in the pen. When ducks breath the let off a ton of moisture so even in the dead of winter when it's below 0° if you don't have really good ventilation it will cause moisture to build up in their pen to the point that they get their little legs and feet frostbitten.

When I saw the picture and the big barn I got excited! :barnie I do think I see a piece of that white vinyl fence that will probably go to your property line? It looks to me that you've got plenty of room for 3 ducks in that area so I wouldn't worry about that. The people I got my first 4 ducks from had a ton of ducks in a space much smaller than what you've got. Maybe you could attach your duck pen to that existing shed and use the side of it as one of the walls of your pen? Since your man is in construction I'll sure he'll figure it out. 2 sides of both of my pens were sides of the barn which made it simple to construct. My husband was talking about building a 3rd pen between my 2 exisiting ones which would basically just mean putting a floor and top on it because he'd use the sides of the 2 pens I've already got.

She did! I’m so glad I joined this group and gotten so many great tips from everyone. Yeah that big barn would’ve been nice to use! :( it belongs to the hardware store (right next to me). We have an antique shop we live underneath of but it’s still pretty quiet here other than some traffic on main st. You’ve definitely eased my worries with space concerns. We’re adding two more white vinyl fence panels to attach the hardware cloth to and I also think it’ll be better because it’ll block some wind. We used concrete for the stone area around the shed and I’d like to keep that plastic storage closet there to put their food/supplies in but we may end up attaching it. I could probably squeeze their food in the shed (I already bought a feed bin). Thanks again :)

That’s a good set up! Oh I don’t expect my run to be beautiful just sturdy and practical. Thank you for all the tips.
