I do hope you enjoy being a BYC member. As you can see from the great replies to your post, there are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

Personally, I have found the Topic of the Week articles a great resource and a one stop shop for questions which may have already been discussed within the BYC membership group.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock when they arrive, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)

Louvered vents are great. You will need 2 ventilation areas so that air can enter AND exhaust from the coop. I like to have an intake vent low, and plenty of exit ventilation up high to take advantage of natural air flow. A weasel can squeeze through any opening you could push a quarter through, so cover all openings with hardware cloth.

If not previously mentioned, chicken wire is not at all predator proof. It will keep chickens in, but will not keep predators out. Your coop should also have a skirt around the base of it to keep digging predators out.

Enjoy.

Any suggestions on how to do a skirt on a mobile coop? I knew what I was going to do when I was planning on building a stationary one, but then this coop kind of landed in my lap.

I would build flap type of skirt that can be lowered when stationary, and raised when you move it. An alternative would be to put electric fencing around it, powered by deep cycle 12V battery. Even with that, you will have issues b/c you will have to continually move your ground rod.
