Hubby and I were out with the chickens, feeding, etc. I went in the run to socialize with the hens for a bit. We have to be careful that the dog won't follow us in, so I hadn't realized it but Hubby had locked the door behind me as a precaution. He was just puttering around the yard. He announced that he was going in for a minute. After a bit I got tired of playing with chickens and as I tried to leave...I couldn't get out!

"Oh", I thought. "Hubby will be back in a minute." Wellll......... 1/2 hour later.....hubby forgot he'd locked the door, got on the computer, got a long phone call and was just happily chatting away. Needless to say I was pacing back and forth trying to figure out what to do. He couldn't hear or see me from where he was. Should I scream loud and alert the neighbors to my embarrassing situation!? As a last resort. I kept trying to jimmy the lock from the inside with no luck but after a while I tried again and with some persistance, bit by bit I was able to work it open. By that time I was furious.

I went in the house and yelled my frustration up the stairs. First reaction was laughing. I put a stop to that real quick.

He now feels real bad about it. I felt pretty helpless. I think I'll be able to laugh about it after a bit, but not quite yet!!!

I would have been ticked.

The people in the next county would have known I was ticked.

Anyway do what we have done. We have placed locks on the inside and outside of the pen doors so that doesn't happen and you can keep your chickens safe. It does work and it also saves your blood pressure from boiling over.

Uggh, that happened to me once. I was in there for 2 hours. It was dusk and the hens kept coming down to try to get me to go up in their coop with them. DH thought that I was just enjoying my "quiet time"

He did the same thing yours did, on his way out of the coop he locked it out of habit.

Are you sure it was an accident?

I got one I'd like to ------uuuuuuuhhhhhhh----- well I'd like some peace and quiet for a minute or two.

It is funny, but its happened to me too. Not as long, I had come out to tell my hun that supper was ready, like you others, went to chat with the girls, hun followed and then said 'see you in the house'... pretty soon 15 min or so, out he comes asking if I was going to eat with everyone or not...then felt horrible at the fact he and Mother were seated at the table talking about how I'll be late to my own funeral because of those darned chickens!

and whats wrong with that?!
