Just realized my rambling message didn't come up. continue.... was pipping yesterday and this evening I heard chirping and lifted mama to see a very cracked/smoosed shell with lots of dry membrane showing and panicked and ran in house to ask someone on here for any suggestions PLEASE????????

is the membrane dry and look like shrink wrap

is the egg look like momma squashed and broke it

if not then leave it to hatch

I know BUT the majority of the shell looks torn away and membrane is dry. Don't think thats correct hatching procedure. I am a panicker, true(slap me now) but have never witnessed the smashed shell/dry membrane thing.

Yes it looks like she sqwashed it. the chic is very noisy and normally if shell were more intact(with a big hole where chic had worked thru) I wouldn't worry(too much)

im a little stuck as to how to answer

as you say the chick is premature so assisting might be fatal

but then not assisting might be fatal

its a very tricky situation your in

can you see the egg yolk

has it been absorbed

if it has slowly see if you can release the chick

OK-Now my extreme ignorance shows(like it didn't already). I have never seen the yolk when they were hatching(mama always took care of it) so hopefully I can find a pic on here to let me know what it looks like(I know what yolks look like so I really sound dumb now) OK-calm down. I will go out now and try to examine more closely. ty.
