I am alittle sad

Ahhh so which ones are considered heavy breeds? Well maybe we will do 3ft. I want it high enough where I can put a poop board under neath it and to where they can walk under the poop board. I would hate to have unusable space.

Ooh! Okay I get what you're saying.

My roosts won't have a poop board, my coop is lined with straw and cleaned every day.

Yes, you might need higher roosts.
I'm not good with chicken breed abbreviations (I'm a crazy goose lady) , but large breeds would be like... Rhode Island Reds, Buff Orpingtons, Buff Brahmas, Leghorns, etc.

I have 2 Easter Eggers, 2 Red Sex Links, 1 Buff Orpington, 1 Barred Rock, 1 Black Astrolorp & 1 Silver Laced Wyandotte.

If you research the breeds,... the ones they call "flighty" are definitely NOT heavy breeds! If you have low fences, choose the chubby girls... they don't fly so high!! However, they can't roost in the rafters either, without the potential of getting injured.... and an injured hen equals at least 4 more new chickens to make her feel better......

I guess the moral of the story is, buy the type of chickens that your coop is set up for, or vice versa, build the coop that your chickens are set up for!!

My Jersey Giant girls are sort of clucking now at 9 weeks. They still have an awkward peep now and then though. It made me sad to hear that peep gone. The brahma chicks are 6 weeks so their time for clucking is coming too. I think that's the thing I will miss the most is the happy little cheeping they do with each other. It's definitely their own little language and I love to sit in the yard with them and listen to them walk around scratching and peeping.

I do believe that is why I have been asking how high or low my roosts should be. My chicks were getting to big for the brooder, so finished our coop enough to get them in there. Still need to do the laying boxes & roosts. But dont want to do it till I know what height they need to be.

Yep a few of my girls are starting to cluck, especially my Barred Rock. Her name is May and she is my favorite.
