Welcome Cotton. Those are great breeds to start with . Orpingtons are loves. And the RIR are a very hardy breed. My one hen is not as friendly as others but a champion layer of pretty brown eggs.

Hi fellow chicken adorers! I have wanted chickens for 30 years, and FINALLY got a few! I am starting with Orpingtons and Rhode Island Reds, I plan on adding EEG and Black Copper Morans next year or maybe later this year, what are your thoughts on the combination of these girls? We are simply a seeking eggs and joy from these girls, they are still very young and my husband is currently building their coop. I would love thoughts on predator proofing and tips for the coop. Thank you all so much!

Welcome from New Orleans. We have had all of the breeds you mentioned in the same flock, at the same time. And had no problems at all. I say give it a try and enjoy your flock.
