I AM FREAKING OUT.

roosters are usually a little more standoffish. They aren't usually friendly. If you want a friendly rooster, get a silkie. I've heard they are great. I don't think you will ever be able to get him to absolutely love you, but bringing him yummy treats whenever you go out there is a great way to build trust. He's a cute little guy!

He is full grown and he is not aggressive. He just needs to be let out with the hens I think. He kinda freaks out when I open the top to give him food or water. How can I change that.

YOu can get some live mealworms and try them, most chickens are crazy for them. I would give some to him on a dish a few times before trying to hand feed. Really tho, I wouldn't try to befriend the roo. Him wanting to stay out of your way is a good thing.

X2.....i use mealworms to...when I hold my chickens..i will give them a mealworm or two b4 i put them down gently.

I think it's probly freaking ur roo out to be over top of it when u open the box. If u have him on the ground..even worse. He most likely feels extremely vulnerable. U should try to get him in a cage that is up off the ground and legal with ur upper body. Then u can softly talk to him and give him goodies to calm him a bit b4 u feed/water him.i think as long as u have him at ground level and ur towering over him and he's "trapped/vulnerable" u r not going to ease his fears enough to work with him.
