My town Morris Township NJ Police said fine then the zone dept said a minimum of three acres!! What a joke no one in this whole town owns three acres!!! It would cost at least 2mil!! I guess I neeed to be a outlaw, not the first time. My neighbors are all great because I asked them! This town sucks and I am going to do it anyway let them fine me!!

Getting your neighbors on board with your plan by bribing them with the promise of free eggs is always a good start, but you'll probably have better luck getting an unrealistic ordinance changed with publicity on your side. Try contacting your local paper, radio station, county extension service, other outlaw chicken owners, etc.

Good luck.

Avoid getting roosters--they're noisier and there's little so distinctive as a rooster's crow.

We not technically allowed to keep chickens, either, but it's a rather silly rule as we have ELEVEN acres, are allowed a horse, there's sheep down the road, and ducks and geese ARE allowed. What gives?

So we keep our chickens and avoid calling attention to ourselves.

I had one friend that found out she could have exotic pets but not live stock. So she got silkies and told people they were an exotic tropical ground bird.

It worked. But she has always been a bit outrageous.
But be careful. In my area we can't have roosters, but one neighbor had one that apparently bothered someone else. Animal control came out and fined him $100 per bird saying they couldn't be sure if the others were roosters too. We have some dumb people here in CA.

Ah, the land of the free.............so one has to worry about being "caught" owning chickens. I can think of at least three crimes worse than that! IF I lived in a communist town that tried to regulate what I owned, the best way to incite my getting chickens would be to tell me I couldn't have them. Why I'd even consider buying a whole flock of them and turning them loose in the park so the town would be infested with feral chickens.......
