Alright, I have a very accurate, scientific formula for figuring out just how many chickens you REALLY need.

You take your age, multiply by the # of people in your family, multiply that by your zip code, then divide by two (because your husband probably doesn't agree so we will take away his half) and voila......there you have it. Now you know how many you need to buy.
