Another idea is to use an old wood ladder which younger chicks or bantams will love! I found a primitive farm ladder at a yard sale for pretty cheap. I put it in my coop resting against the ceiling support beams in a secure position. My chickens like to hop from bar to bar.

I used 2x2 non-pressure treated lumber from my local guy. Its big enuogh for the them be stable and small enough that my girls can wrap thier "toes around it" and cover thier feet with feathers.They sleep on the 2 roosts all night.

This is what the roosts look like. I bought shelve brackets from my hardware store and just bolted the roosts to them. They are super stable and if they need to be replaced... I can just unbolt them from the brackets.
