I am new and I have a problem -Los Angeles Area

Thanks everyone. I am trying to work up the nerve to respond to the complaint and call animal control.

Bleenstar -I have been looking at the code. Don't you think that 41.6.3 says it is legal to sell baby chicks in the city? If its legal to sell them then it must be legal to buy them.

Mahonri -is that your real name or do you just have a brother named Jared?

This is the regulation i was referencing.

City of Los Angeles DEPARTMENT OF ANIMAL REGULATION
40.03-Exceptions page 19
(b)-No person shall keep any rabbit, hare, chicken, rooster, gamecock,
turkey, guineahen, peacock, goose, duck, pheasant or other fowl
(except pigeons) closer than the following distances:
1. Within 20 feet of the dwelling or residence of the owner of
said animals or poultry.
2. Within 35 feet of any other dwelling, residence or living
quarters provided that any crowing rooster, gamecock, turkey,
guineahen, peacock, goose, duck or other fowl capable of loud crowing
or like noise, shall not be kept within 100 feet of any dwelling,
residence or living quarters of persons other than their owner.

i would just go ahead and call animal control. i spoke to them when i lived down there and wanted to check the regulations, and this is what they told me. And when you do call, ask how you can be in compliance and keep your two little chickens.

You might want to consider keeping them in your garage as you only have 2 littli ones. Are you sure the one that is crowing is not a roo ? If it is you will not be able to keep it quiet !!!!

I use to have 2 banties in a rabbit hutch in my garage before I got my coop.

Sorry if I'm abrupt/rude whatever. Your SUPRISED a ROOSTER CROWS.... ? That's what they do, that's why I like them. NO hen is absolutely quiet. I have an EE, Dominique, and a RIR and they aren't loud.

ncChicks,

no you aren't being rude, its simply a misunderstanding. The reason I am surprised at the crowing noises is because the dang bird is a hen! I've seen her lay eggs and I am sure that is the best way to confirm a female.

Thanks everyone for the help. I was able to find a home for the silver seabright. I'm going to try and keep the OE and hopefully get one or two more QUIET hens after we figure all this out.

lil_jess, we are a long way from Sacramento! What kinds of bantys did you get?
