Chapter 11

"Good morning!!" Butter yells in my ear when she wakes up.

"Was that really necessary?" I snap.

"Sorry.... When are you gonna tell more? Huh? Huh? Huh?"

"Later. Can I get up, eat, drink and graze first????"

"I guess...."

"Thank you, Butter." I hop off the roost.

I go down the stairs and take a big drink from the waterer. I help myself to some scratch.

"Watch it! This is my scratch! Stay away or I'll get your Mommy. Oh wait! You don't have a Mommy, do you?" Sierra, a Frizzled White Leghorn snaps at me. She is definately not a nice hen.

"It's not yours." I say.

"Yes it is! So watch it baldy!"

"Stop calling me that. I'm not bald."

"BALDY is here!!! RUN!" Sierra trotts away, laughing

My boyfriend, Matt, a Golden Laced Wyandotte, trots over to me. "Lemme guess.. Sierra was making fun of you again."

"Of course she was... What else would she be doing? Telling me how great I am! Huh!?! Huh?!?! OF COURSE NOT!"

"Woe, woe, woe... Settle down. She's just a jerk."

"Fine..."

Matt rubs his head against mine. I rub mine back.

"Come on... Let's go out into the woods, before Sierra comes back." He suggests.

"Okay."

We trot out of the coop and across the big field and into the trees and bushes.

"I love you." Matt tells me.

"I love you too, honey." I reply.

We nest together in the dusty dirt.

"Do you ever think I'm..... Ugly? I'm just plain white! No fancy feathers. Sierra's are frizzled, Butter's are orange, Lacey's are white and black, yours are gold and black. I'm just so... Plain."

"Of course not. You can always try to get the girl to dye your feathers, if your that unhappy. But personally, I love you the way you are."

"Oh... That might be a good idea. Thanks, Matt."

"You can always be brown and white!"

"What do you mean 'brown and white'?"

He flings mud onto my feathers. "There! Your speckled!"

I grumble.

"Come on... It's just a joke."

I fling a bunch of mud onto his back, ruining his beautiful feathers.

He gasps.

"Haha!!!" I fling some more onto him.

"Alright.... You got me."

"Hehe!"

"Wanna go on a walk? Rather than flinging mud at eachother?" He chuckles.

"I'd be delighted!"

We get up and fix our feathers. The mud is now off.

"I've started to tell Lacey and Butter..."

"How did they react? Did you tell them the whole thing?"

"Startled. Not all of it. I'm gonna continue to tell them after our walk."

"Ahh... I see."

"Yeah..."

"I hope Sierra wasn't easdropping on us when I was telling them."

"She wasn't. She was at the Vet."

I giggle. "Good for her!"

"Ha.. It was just a checkup."

"Awww.... Man! Wait - How do you know?"

"Uh... I.. Uh... I went too..." He sighed. "But I promise you nothing is wrong."

"Are you sure? Why didn't you tell me? Are you okay?!?!?!"

"I'm sure.. Because I knew you were gonna get scared. I'm fine, it was just a checkup."

"Okay..." I sigh.

"Thank you. I love you."

"I love you too..."

We rub our heads against anothers. All of the sudden, Matt stops.

"What?" I ask curiously.

"I thought I heard something."

The bushes moved from side to side.
