I am not sure I want to get a permit. Help please!

I had no idea it was illegal to release bobwhites in PA. I couldn't find any info on the topic against it. I knew it was illegal to sell, trade, etc without a propagator permit. I raised some just to release them. I had about 30 of them and they ended up releasing themselves one day. When I got home from work the cage door was open and a few were walking in the field next to my house. I saw a a small group of them a few days later and that's the last I ever saw of them. I'm pretty sure something in the area ate really good for a week .

Heres some info i had no idea about:
"(d) Marking game or wild birds. - No person shall sell, barter, give away or otherwise transfer possession, or offer to sell or barter, any game bird, wild bird, game animal or wild animal raised or held under authority of a propagating permit unless that game bird, wild bird, game animal or wild animal is marked by any one of the following alternative methods:

(1) A toe shall be clipped from the right foot before reaching six weeks of age.

(2) A marker shall be furnished by the commission at a reasonable cost. The markers must be attached in compliance with commission regulations no later than six weeks of age.

(3) On delivery of any live game bird, wild bird, game animal or wild animal the permittee shall prepare and deliver to the shipper, purchaser or consignee a receipt, detailed invoice or consignment document which shall include the date, name and address of purchaser or person to whom sold or consigned, the quantity, sex and species of the game bird, wild bird, game animal or wild animal and the name, address and permit number of the permittee. "

and this below goes along with the top....so the bird must have a toe clipped, have propigation permit and some marker before it can be released like it says below:::
"Pennsylvania Game Commission Executive Director Carl G. Roe today signed an executive order to authorize hunters and dog trainers to release captive-raised/captive-bred ring-necked pheasants, bobwhite quail, chukar partridges and rock pigeons on State Game Lands for hunting or dog-training purposes.

Under the executive order, such releases could be done by licensed hunters or those possessing a valid dog trial permit. Exceptions to the order are during the month of October, unless the activity is done with a valid dog trial permit, when such releases will be prohibited.

Roe noted that hunters must abide by established bag limits if birds are released during established seasons for pheasants or quail, unless the activity is being conducted as part of a permitted field dog trial. Outside of the established seasons for pheasants and quail, only individuals who possess a dog training permit may release them."

ETA: like wilds said the birds have to have a reciept from the breeder to even be owned to show proof where you got it from so even if you have a hunting license if your birds have no permiter recipt thing your in big doo doo if you get caught lol

I think it might be that the Permit application form is soo frustrating! There is a lot on it and it covers a whole lot of animals that I have had before like turtles, frogs, lizards, some fish, etc. lol

I am going to have my dad read it over our vacation and see if he understands it.

I can always get a few more bobwhites and get more eggs each day. lol Actually I have 5 hens and 4 males. I forgot about my Mexicans. I might try to get a few more of them They are really cool! lol Thats beside the point. I have room for about 20 to 25 more quail in my pen so I might try to get a few more from my friend I bought my first ones from.

I know it is best for me to get the permit. I am pretty sure I am going to but I just need to understand it a little better.

Thanks for all your help everybody! I know quite a few people that want bobwhite quail eggs so I am 99 percent positive that I will get it.

Thanks,
Cody!!

Wow 35.00 for seven bobwhite. Some one is making a good profit. If people are paying that much I would get the permit.I might need to relocate.

Lol Ya the man I bought them from is at the Ohio Game Farm. They sell all sorts of pheasants, chickens, quail, etc.

I regret paying $5 per bird but I still love them.

Thanks,
Cody!!

Hey again Cody,
I have been keeping a watch on this post of yours....

just knwo that you will also be putting your customers who buy bobwhites from you at risk as well.... if they get caught they get fined and if they point a finger at you as do you.... your quails are to have a certificate if i read correctly just like here in pa to proove where they came from, the certificate is sort of like a copy of the breeders permit to breed them without that and wihtout your bobwhites being marked you are already in doo doo even if you decide not to sell them.

What i dont understand is why are you confused about the permit application it's plain and simple pay the fee and be legal....it's a simple thing really...you should not let the idea of making a profit off of your birds make you not want a permit.... in the end a permit will make you more legit as right now you're pretty illegal my friend.
