I am not sure I want to get a permit. Help please!

Here in pa you will also be required to have your township or local borough fill out a paper that the PGC gives you stating that your township you reside in allows birds to be propagated as well. your township or boro must sign this application, However its not that difficult to get things done if you really want them..

plus you will need to follow there pen and flight pen rules which they will tell or give you a paper of what sizes you will need to build to suit the birds being propagated..

Niki, The permit application that I got in the mail is very difficult. I have to fill out a whole page of all sorts of info of where I got my quail and names of owners, breeders, etc. Also I have to write down what all I have. It says that I have to have a permit for geese, ducks, turkeys, quail and llots of other animals.

THanks,
Cody!!

Why is releasing them MORE illegal? I see the birds will die from lack of food and water source and the population of prey birds will increase in the area... but help me to understand why this is more illegal to release them, please.

um. because it's against the law. That's why. Because releasing farm bred birds that the DNR game commission is NOT aware of to keep track of and whatever else they do when birds are released can HURT the native population. Domestic raised quail can be subject to illnesses that their wild counter parts AREN't exposed to. So you realease birds that aren't approved, birds that can't be monitored by whatever means they are, and you could kill off a native population easily. It's just not smart and very illegal and irresponcible.

i just saw this now...

The reason they want to know where you got your original quail from is to make sure you have your bobwhites you alreaady own with a permit certificate. That's what i was telling you about when you wanted to buy them in the first place. The breeder you bought off of is selling them illegally that's why you're having issues with filling out the application because if they find out you'll be in doo doo just for that as will the breeder. I no longer have my trio of bobwhites here because i learned real quick that even though you dont need a permit just to own them you do need a certificate prooving you got htem from a certified/permited source. So they became a yummy grilled dinner. Bobwhites are a pain in the butt... no point raising them IMO unless you really really like the taste of them to waste the time on them....OR unless you're helping with restocking efforts with your game commission/DNR.

As for the geese and ducks and turkeys they are probably meaning nondomestic species. if they aren't then that's something you should have relaly looked into before hand.

You are not allowed to have migrating species and wild turkeys without a permit for such same as bobwhite quail so it doesnt suprise me. Unless they are domestic, like domestic mallards, domestic pilgrim geese, and bourbon red turkeys....(to name a few).
