I am rescuing birds in a poorly managed environment, Help!

If you do add them to your flock by putting them in the coop at night... just make sure you are on hand to supervise when they all get up in the morning. When they wake up the existing flock will still know there are stangers in the coop! I have seen that go very, very badly for the new birds. To be honest, it has never worked for me with a small flock. A very large coop and lots of birds.. yes. What I do with a small flock is, after quarantine, I pen new birds alongside the existing flock for a while so everybody gets used to seeing them around, I also let them free range together. They still having pecking order scuffles when they first get together but by then it's pretty minor stuff and nobody gets hurt.
