I am so confused......

Went to feed store yesterday and all they offered is crumble in the grower category. I really wanted to get some mash!

Fred.. while we are on this topic.. Do you buy your feed in bulk? My feed store makes their feed there. Co-Op brand. I have the option of buying bulk, but would it be worth it? Would the bags be cheaper in the long run?

Tote bags are large canvas bags that come in either 500kg or 1000kg sizes. They have built in ‘handles’ so they can be lifted and moved around by tractor or forklift. We have a forklift here at the store and load the totes for you when you pick them up; you must be equipped to handle them when you get them home. Minimum order for this method is 1 MT ( 2x500kg or 1x1000kg). 48hrs(minimum) is needed to have your order made and bagged. Bags must be dropped off at our feed mill before or at the time of ordering. Your order must be paid for at the time of pickup. Tote bags can be bought from the mill (approx. $35/tote) and can be used over and over again for the same feed only (provided it is in good condition). As long as you keep feed dry and are able to keep rodents out of it, it usually has a best before date of 3-4 months depending on the type of feed and the ingredients in it.

If you have any other questions, please let me know.

Our local feed stores vary a bit. I prefer the Amish run, Hubbard feed store. They grind their own mash. They'll sell it to you in bulk. I buy 100 pound bags. I like my feed fresh, so storing feed for a long period of time doesn't appeal to me. YMMV.

At our mill, the frugal owners give you a 50 cent credit for each bag you return. Kind of quaint.

The one disappointment with the feed mill is that they don't grind their own Chick or Grower. I know of no mill in our area that does. Pre-bagged only.

The snow can get waist high here. Lugging bags down to the barn in those temps throughout winter would be awful. I'd like to get a 2 month supply at least. For January & February. In March it's still cold, but the snow has started to melt a bit. December varies.

I need a big plough to add to the grill of my FIL's truck. That would make life easier!

i think that they now call it crumbles or pellets.correct me if i'am wrong.
