We're new to this forum and embarking on our first experience as "urban farmers". We live outside the city limits and there are no zoning restrictions where we live with respect to having a flock. We have a perfect coop and we are building a "run" for our birds. We have a flock of six chicks right now that are about three weeks old. So far, we're having a really good time caring for them and watching them grow. My husband and I both grew up around farm animals and love all animals.
Here's the frustrating part...our friends and family are ruthless about our decision to have a flock for our own eggs. I've heard comments like "hope you like chicken poop on your eggs" , "this is going to go south quickly" , "I can't wait to say I told you so", "you know they sell eggs at the grocery store", "you obviously don't have better things to do with your time". I'm sick of it. I came a little unglued on Facebook today with some of my "friends" who continue to make fun of me for having chickens.
I guess I just am looking for some support and reassurance.
Thanks,
Chris
