Sorry your friends and family aren't being supportive. I sure can't imagine why, though. My friends and family were MORE than excited when I got chickens as they were wanting eggs. I was raised in "the country", most of my friends and family had at least grandparents with chickens so they are used to a little poop on their eggs.
However, like you, I have friends who aren't from the country and I have neighbors on Facebook that I really didn't want to advertise to that I had chickens. So, I created a Facebook friends group of what I call my "Poultry Peeps". Whenever I want to send a pic of my chicks or talk about chickens, I send it only to my Poultry Peeps. That way the rest of my FB friends don't see it and I don't have to hear stuff from them.
I'd recommend you try something like that and just share your chicken stuff with like-minded friends on Facebook. And, here, of course! We're all "Poultry Peeps" at BYC!
