I ordered 15 chicks and 4 ducklings from Nature's Hatchery. When I called, they said the ducklings are due to ship on Monday the 24th and the chicks on Wednesday the 26th.

I have never gotten lil ones in the mail before and I am SO NERVOUS about it. I assume this is pretty normal?

You're probably just excited!

Everyone loves new babies! I had a great experience getting chicks in the mail. I'm sure you'll be fine and if there ARE any bumps in the road, we'll all be here for you! Good luck and have fun!

Yes definitely. You are waiting for the storks to arrive. No clue when they get here. I had expected our post office to call me (instructions on box says to call on arrival) but the mailman actually delivered the cheeping box to our house! Not to sound like a plug for US Post or anything but don't stress out too much, your babies are in good hands. Good luck with your babies! Hope you don't lose any in transit or to stress!

Completely normal!! I was like an expectant mother running around "nesting" waiting on baby Faverolles to arrive...I swear I got morning sickness a time or two.

I cleaned the feeders & waterers daily, the week before they were to arrive...surprised I had anything left. Check the brooder bulb daily as well. I would lay awake at night going over my list of items needed, to make sure everything was bought & ready for their arrival.
Then the day arrived...and so did they...got them all tucked into the brooder...and I took a nap

You just have a case of "the nerves" as my grandmother used to call it. You'll make a great mother hen!

Thanks All!!

I am just so nervous that some are going to be dead...I know it is a possibility and it is what it is, but it makes me nervous!

I keep telling myself that I am going to have the hubby open the box, but I know I will be so excited when they get here that I will want to tear into it!!

Thanks again!

I was nervous about opening the box & finding DOAs too. Thankfully I ordered 8, received them all alive, and 3 weeks later I still have the 8 and they're growing like weeds.

Good luck! Keep us posted!

I just ordered 10 cayuga ducklings from McMurray Hatchery today, and I too am nervous about them being shipped, and opening up the package to find DOA's! And here I thought I was being too paranoid! Good to know I'm not alone!!!

This is my first time ordering through the mail, and the first time I will have ducks! Chickens are next. There is so much to learn, but I thank the stars every night I found this message board! Everyone is so helpful and nice !! hard to find these days

Some post offices will deliver and some will call you to come pick them up. I live in a rural area. My last 25 chicks were from Townline Hatchery in Zeeland Michigan and I live in Florida. I was worried about them traveling all that distance. My chicks were shipped on a Monday and supposed to arrive on a Tuesday or Wednesday. I called the P.O. a couple days in advance to tell them that I was expecting some chicks. I called the P.O again on Wednesday when the chicks were due in at the latest and was told none came in that day and that most likely they would be in the next day as they usually get them in around 6am. At 3pm that day I got a call from the post office that my chicks had come in with some priority mail and to please come and pick them up. To my surprise and delight all were fine.
