I am so upset!!!

The first thing I do is ignore the words "Lock down", I have a spray bottle of water that shoots out a very fine mist. When my eggs start wobbling and pipping, every now and then I lift the lid and shoot a fine mist all over the eggs. Not enough to drown anyone, but enough to keep the shell moist enough they can work it around without tiring and without getting shrink wrapped.
I sure hope your little guy makes it ok, he seems to be tough!

I hope so too, KAte, and I am learning that not everything works for everyone. I know I need to get my humidity higher, and I am now thinking I need to re-calibrate and make sure everything with the temp and humidity is right on. I have more eggs coming and really would like a nicer hatch.

If our natural humidity gets into the double digits here we think we are dying! So since it's so dry I started spritzing the eggs once a day during incubation and then several times during pip, zip, and hatch and I've lost a lot less birds now.

We have had a couple shrink wrapped for various reasons and they have all done fine. We gave them a long soak in warm water and slowly, meticulously peeled all the goo off of them and they have ALL done fine. So as long as nothing else is wrong, your little one should do fine.

I agree about our local humidity!!

It is crazy dry here, so humidity probably needs to increase just to keep it from being sucked dry! My last broody stuck her eggs in a water dish and sat on it.

Luckily 3 of the 5 still hatched (though one died while hatching...I think it suffocated under mama). The 2 that didn't make it probably drown the day she stuck them in the bowl. How she got them in the bowl WITHOUT breaking them is beyond me.

(And we were in the 60s during her 21 days of sitting! At nights we were down to the high 30s/low 40s).

So sorry for your loss. We experienced the same thing with shrink wrapping. 3 of ours made it, one was deformed and one died in the shell/membrane. 2 of the 3 still look a little 'not as cute' because of the dried goo but I've been cleaning them with warm water and a Q-tip.

Glad you stepped in a saved your little ones!
