I know it....I had originally wanted March for a shipping time frame, but I got February. They're red jungle fowl, so I don't exactly have the option of ordering them whenever I want because they're always sold out.
And I'm in Amarillo. It's still TEXAS, just an extremely bitter cold, snowy part of Texas LOL
You know since first getting chickens just a couple of years ago, I have been surprised at how durable (I guess that is what you call it) chicks can be. We had a waterer turn over one year in our brooder full of silkies. Just two hours after it must have happened we checked on them. One had been trapped under it and was cold and barely breathing. I quickly brought it in the house and turned on the hair dryer. Within minutes it was up and peeping it's head off. She is still producing eggs for me in the coop now. And then our first purchase in some bitter cold from the feed store who had just gotten them the day before in the bitter cold shipped. I figured I would buy more than I needed because surely some would fail to make it. Nope all grew up healthy and strong.
I would have loved to wait for March or April on shipping also, but those months will be booked with lots of traveling to horse shows. This way I can get at least 6 weeks on these chicks and move them from the brooder to the nursery section of the coop.
What breed/s did you order? I have Cochins, Buff Orps and the Surprise Pullet Special coming. Should be interesting.
