Hello All, I am hoping that I am doing this correctly.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Nope not new to chickens as I was raised on a farm and have been around chickens since I was 4. However, I didn't have my own flock of chickens until 4 years ago.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I'm not quite sure how many I have right now, I have more than I can count without separating them.

(3) What breeds do you have?
I have several breads of chickens. I have Buff Orp., Americanas, Barred Rocks, Silkies,Cochins, Murans,Faverolles both salmon and Blue Salmon Faverolles. Frizzles,Brahmans,Wynadottes and Hamburgs.

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
Saw magazine years ago

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I own and operate a small feed, seed and farm store in East Texas

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I ve been a geriatric nurse for 25 years, have 5 children ages 22,20,17,13,6, we live on 76 acres in the piny woods of East Texas, I love all my critters almost as much as my children. We also have ducks, geese, 4 horses, a miniature donkey, miniature jersey, a llama and various cats and dogs.
I have always loved to watch chickens especialy when we catch a bunch of june bugs to feed them. I personally have never hatched eggs in an incubator but want to very much. I was wondering what the hatch rate is for eggs that have been shipped, and also if there is any certain way to ship eggs that is better than other ways

! Great to have you in our community! You seem to be handling the technology just fine! As to your incubating and egg shipping question, I will defer to the experts. There is a powerful Hatching & Incubating thread on BYC - below is a link. Post over there and the fine folks will tell you what they know. Good luck and have fun!!

Another great hatching resource is this article by Sally Sunshine

And there are better ways of shipping - the best egg packing I have seen is by Skyline Poultry, his eggs always come through in excellent shape - I think he has some instructions somewhere

You might post your question in the BYC Website and Forum Feedback section of the Forum

Welcome to BYC. If you decide to purchase a small incubator. I suggest you go with one of higher quality, like the Brinsea Octagon 20 Eco. It holds 24 eggs, is totally automated, and I am getting great hatch rates out of it. Don't waste your time on the cheap styrofoam incubators. You will be dissapointed.
