I am soooo done....

Mine started laying recently. They had a brief stoppage, while I was away this weekend. I asked hubby what happened. He said, "Nothing, just yard work." It turned out he hired a gardener to do a bunch of work near the hens. I think they were disturbed by the activity. Also, I noticed their water dish was empty. Upon my return, the work was done, the water re-filled, and the Chicks provided me with a "Welcome Home" omelet.

As a matter of note, 2 of the 3 are laying. One (soon to be Sunday dinner!), is holding out on me. I don't know why.

Hang in there, don't get discouraged, they'll lay. They just need light, safety, water and a suitable nesting area. Be patient.

If your not careful , that Silkie will go broody and try to hatch that potatoe .

I had at least one laying, but had someone else's pullets in w/mine. She thought her's were getting broody, so she left some eggs in, trying to encourage them. As a result, mine started to sit on the eggs off and on, and stopped laying. She finally moved her's (they're all on a mutual friend's farm), and her's are laying. Either mine are still not laying, or they're laying them some place that I haven't found. I'm in the middle of making it so they can't get out of the pen. I'm wondering if I'm going to have to wait until next year for eggs.
