i am starting to question oprah's gender...

I bow to Silkie's vast chicken knowledge.

Our Australorps, at around that age, started developing a comb and wattles just
like that one.

Hey PurpleChicken, I didn't say that....but I think you understand teenage boy's sense of humor...anyway do you really think Oprah is a hen? Is she a black star?

Hey. You joined up. Welcome.

My sense is that is a black sex link, and if so then it is a hen.
Silkiechicken thinks differently and I am a total newbie compared to
her (not kissing mods butt - Silkie helped me a lot when I first joined).
Just wait and see. If it turns out to be a roo you do have options, like
eating it.

As for understanding a teenagers' sense of humor my wife would tell you I
have about the same maturity level too.

We don't like that options...let's just hope mypetchicken did right by us and she is a hen...or you may be getting a new roo but keep the ax away from "drumstick"

None of the hatcheries can sex birds that accurately. We ended up with 3 out of 25
roos in our pullet assortment. Welcome to the wonderful world of chickens!!!

Our hatchet hasn't gotten much action lately. It will in a few months. We have a ton
of chicks and more hatching. Plenty of roos on the way.
