I am such an idiot

Don't beat yourself up! Sometimes we miss things, but you still seem like an excellent pet owner for taking it so seriously and treating it as soon as you realized what was wrong. Sounds like your dog is in good hands!

Thanks for the kind words. I still feel like an idiot, but at least I know what to do.

I got home from town and saw she was standing a little straighter and looks less "out of it." Her head is still tilted, but the eye movement has calmed down quite a bit. She took some food from my hand. Wet venison cat food. Yum.

I told my DH about what I discovered and he said "her head tilted?" Yup. He hadn't even thought about vestibular either, even though he's seen it with enough of our dogs. At least we know this is something treatable.

I'll keep you updated.

Try not to be too hard on yourself Sky Warrior. Everyone makes mistakes, what's important is that you caught yours and are now getting her the treatment she needs. I know a lot of other very experienced dog owners/handlers who would have made the exact same mistake. And working for a vet, I can't tell you how many owners would not have noticed until the symptoms were much more severe, writing the subtle ones off as "old dog syndrome."
