OH my goodness. I really hope you are not going out into the woods looking for the bear, just having some fun with the image.
All you have to do is step between mom and baby (both could be hidden) and you will get charged by mom.

It is just crazy that you are having to live under seige like this. I can't believe they will do nothing until someone is hurt.

Is there anywhere the chickens can go for awhile so momma bear and cubs will move on and stop checking out the chicken take out?

THe woods are my back yard over 300 acres of them....
Aside from the garage there is no other place and I do not think I could take the stench of like 30 chickens/chicks poopin in the garage and it is basically the same for everyone here. Bears everywhere...

They shot the bear with rubber bullets last year. I think it was back that night or in the morning...

I realize the issues here but I just also realized how crazy it is to give or accept that answer from fish and game... I certainly wasnt thinking right! Sometimes I am to nice.

having met you YES you are tooo nice, you need to think about yourslf and your family, you have had enough documentation over the past year to be able to kill this thing and NOT get into trouble. Again here is where the news crew would be useful. Put an add in the craigs list that you are looking for a good hunter to barter. Hire him and let him do it if you are uncomfortable. Laws are not ALWAYS in the best interest of the people , just think of how many women have been killed by stalkers before they changed the law to help protect them better.
Again you can prove beyond a reasonable doubt that you and your family are in REAL danger, I wish I lived closer I would be right over.

Kill the bear in some way now and deal with the repercussions, If they arrest you I will personally have my family lawyer send someone for you and help you pay bail, then I will call my friend who works in public relations and let her go to town. I think those at BYC would ralley as well and that you would NOT get in trouble in the end.

This bear is a menece and not afaraid of your home or attacking it as it has done before no one should live in the fear that you have been living in.

I am not really shocked with the attitude that Fish and Game is taking. I SHOULD be, but I have run into their reluctance to deal with problem animals in the past myself. The Fish and Game Dept. is usually a part of the State Police, and I think they may have a PR spokesperson. It sounds like your best bet at this point (besides SSS) is to make more people aware of the peril your family faces from these pesky bears. If enough people are made aware of the problem then someone will HAVE to do something about it. An article in the local paper, a short story on your local news program, on-line postings, fliers posted in store windows... it could be that you are not the only victim of the bear harassment. If a handful of folks all get together and present your case to the State police PR flack then it would be in everybody's best interest to address the problem. "Strength in numbers" I have found to be the only way to go when dealing with government bodies.

Sorry you have to deal with this. As if you needed one more problem to deal with...

Be safe.

I was in a store and they said there have benn many purchases for paintballs and even shotguns for this very reason. Today I noticed something ODD
There is a hole in the glass of the door to my coop, looks like something shot through it or out of the window I can not tell. I will go take pics. There is no paintball residue, and there is not any glass we can see on the floor. I GUESS maybe it could have broken on its own with me shoving the door closed. I do not see a bullet/pellets or anything anywhere else in the coop. Not like I could find them in the poop and hay. I swear the hole wasnt there last night...

I disagree. A Wounded bear is a vengeful beast. My fathers friend wounded one on a hunt, couldn't find it, went back to the cabin to start tracking it back in the morning to only be tracked back there by that very bear. Luckily he had his shotgun close by and wasn't hurt too badly.

If you shoot, shoot to kill. A 12 gauge loaded with mag. slugs or some dragon's breath will definately do the job.

If it were me, I'd load up the Slug, Dragons, then some buckshot if it did decide to run off.

Tha hole was made by a projectle, likely rock, the outer edge of the right side shows that something was tossed at it. rounded edges on one side suggest a small diamiter rock. look around inside bet you find one likely bounced up along the back wall.

ETA: Personally what I would d is cover the inside of te windows with a heavy gauge wire screen. will keep glass from flying inside where the chickens can eat or peck at it.

I did find some glass inside and out. The odd thing is that that door is only 3-4 feet from my gate to get in the coop area. it is covered where the glass in the window is with contractors fencing... it would be VERY odd to have someone throw a rock and be that close to our house. We have one neighbor that is far off to the opposite side and really we never see them and they are new renters. The window with the sticker showing is the inside part of the door. That is the side the stress marks in the glass are. It is very odd

Oh yea the screen is a good idea thanks
