I am new to chickens and purchased a bunch of different breeds from one local breeder at the same time including what was supposed to be pure breed silkie

well I just happen to post a pic of her on a silkie thread and was told she is definetly NOT a pure breed silkie. she has feathers and only 4 toes.

Should I complain and if so what is the proper thing to ask for? I don't want to return her because she is my kids favorite but I REALLY wanted a silkie

Did you pay for purebred silkie price? I would at least let him know it's not.

If you paid for pure bred birds than that is what you are suppose to get. I would contact the "Breeder" and discuss what to do at this point

I paid $15 for a 1-2 week old chick. Is that pure breed price? It was more then the other chicks we got

I would definately tell him its not then. He might of made an honest mistake. If I would of sold you that bird I would give you another for free or your money back.

If you paid 15 for that chick there is no reason it should have such flaws. Not all birds will be the same quality as the parents but those are some serious faults for a silkie and a true breeder would never breed birds that produce such obvious faults

15 dollars? I'd let the breeder know right quick that you paid for a purebred and received a mutt chicken.

$15 is not enough to say it MUST have been a pure bred bird. Many sell pet quality birds for that price or even more. However it makes sense to contact the breeder and explain NICELY that you thought the chick was supposed to be pure silkie, and it is not. If you picked it out, the breeder may have thought you knew what you were getting. A breeder having good quality silkies does not mean that they do not also have crossbreeds and mutts.

Once you have explained that you wanted a pure silkie, see what the breeder has to say. You catch more flies with honey than vinegar.

I sent him an e-mail last night complete with pictures and am waiting to hear back. Funny thing is when I searched for his craigslist ad to get his e-mail the title of the add was
** Show Quality Silkies***

um...that is def not what I got!



but isn't she cute!
