I am TICKED

Darn I got ripped off selling my silkie. I'm going to start listing on Craigslist. I sold a nice splash silkie roo for only 15$. (catdance silkie. he was lonely and I didn't want him mating with my Olive eggers) He had a nice black comb, beautiful feathers, 5 toes feathered nicely.

. I wish I would have known better about silkies. I had a moment when I was bored and lurking in the auction section and kelar put up a buy now, well in a moment of weakness I hit buy

and there I was with silkies. Two things can be learned from this 1. DON'T LURK ON THE AUCTION SECTION WHEN BORED. (this has happened with eggs from Wynette also) 2. Know more about the bird you are selling and what is a good price. As for JesikaD01 lesson is just about the same as mine. Know more about the birds you are buying, and what is the difference in pet and show quality and what is a good price for both.

Jesika ~ You didn't say where you are? If you are in Missouri, I have some pretty 6 week old chicks for sale, and some younger. While at this age, NO one can guarantee show quality, I can assure you they are pure Silkie! I think $15.00 for a day old chick is a tad high, especially when it's not what you asked for, or was advertised as. Like Sonoran said, ask nicely. If he's a decent sort, he will make it right for you, if not, well lesson learned. He may have a fence jumping roo he doesn't know about too? There are quite a few people in the chicken world that are only in it to make a quick buck, especially on places like Craig's List. Learn to ask the right questions, and to see the adult birds if at all possible. If they advertise as "show quality", are they just pulling that term out of the air, or do they actually show? What shows? How did you do? An honest breeder will be glad to talk your ear off about their birds. A not so honest chicken seller, takes the money, hands you the bird, and points you towards your car!

I am new to chickens and purchased a bunch of different breeds from one local breeder at the same time including what was supposed to be pure breed silkie

well I just happen to post a pic of her on a silkie thread and was told she is definetly NOT a pure breed silkie. she has feathers and only 4 toes.

Should I complain and if so what is the proper thing to ask for? I don't want to return her because she is my kids favorite but I REALLY wanted a silkie

help
You refer to this chick as a "she". I'm assuming because you hope it is a pullet, and it's nicer than calling the chick an "It", or did the breeder tell you it was definitely a pullet in addition to being a pure silkie?

Well, even if it is a she, how did he explain the hard feathers?? That is not a Silkie feathered bird. If he is willing to give you your money back, I would take it!

Personally i would give them the choice of reimbursing the cost or providing another bird. Ideally they will be open to either option, then the op can choose what works for her.

It's hard to tell by that picture. If it were me I'd ask how he is able to sex his silkie chicks, and if he will replace any roosters.

There is someone in my area that runs all her Silkies together. When questioned about it, she says : everyone loves all her different colors...well, they are pure Silkies, but all mixed up vaieties...new purchasers don't understand this...and it makes me angry...Quote:
