I am trying my first incubation! UPDATE

A fan in the incubator would be something you would really want. It will make the temperature very stable. If you need any help with wiring (just PM me), which I doubt you would really need help, but you could wire a PC fan in the incubator to a cell phone charger. They make perfect fans for the styrofoam incubators.

I will talk to The Big Guy and see if he will do it for me. I absolutely will not do anything electrical and get very nervous if someone else is messing with it. I had 2 good scares and want nothing to do with it! I get nervous plugging in the hair dryer in the mornings!

I am on my second attempt. I am using 9 eggs this time. Set on Sunday evening, I candled today and have vein development in all 9. Here are the pics. I moved the incubator out of my room, it was sitting directly under a window so at night my temps were dropping. It is now in the living room.. I now have ALL of the water reservoirs filled to keep humidity in the 50's, as it was dropping down to and staying at 37% -39%.

I put it here so it won't get bumped and there are no windows or doors next to it.

The eggs in it.

I put the pot holder over one window to bring temp back up quicker after I open it.

Edited to change out a wrong picture. Don't think a picture of springs for a jeep would help much in this thread. LOL

So happy for the progress on the second attempt! I had to move mine from the kitchen to under my sewing desk because of the temp drops locally. But I've kept my humidity much lower, so far so good. Candled today and all is going well, movement etc. I hope both of our hatches work out, your flock will be built up quickly! You got a brooder all set?

Brooder area is ready, I just need to pick up another reflector shade thingy. I gave the other one to the turtle. (what?! I didn't want him to get cold) LOl

Excellent. I'm not at all prepared for the little guys. I've been toying with building a new coop to keep me occupied though, but that would just be to move the girls into new digs lol.

Turtle? Want a few more? Know some sliders that need a home lol (not mine).

No more turtle for me! He was in the same situation as the Turken who is currently quarantined in my brooder shed. They weren't feeding him properly, no heat for him in a bowl that was so small all he could do was turn in circles and nobody would ever clean his tank. He's living the good life now. I actually took the little booger outside yesterday for almost an hour and followed him around as he crawled around the yard sow he could have good exercise. I do this about once a week. I hate to see an animal suffer.

Hi all, also busy with my first incubation but only day 3 tomorrow. So will only candle on Monday night- hope all is well, got 18 in, considering I lost 24 to the dog this week I'm hoping for a good hatch, got a broody on day 11 with BA eggs under her, bator has BA and BR in, hubby busy with a tractor, luckily our day temps are 91 and higher and night temps 66 or so so brooding period will be relatively short! Just hope all goes well all round so everyone hatches successfully! Good luck!
