I Am Trying To Read Twilight And I Already Hate Bella

I liked the books, but wasn't reading them as serious literature! They are fluff, and if you don't overanalyze and expect good character development, etc. they are on a par with a slightly better written romance novel, imho. I'll read anything though! I read them in a weekend when it was cold and snowy, and there really wasn't anything else to do!

points to keep in mind.

this was written for TEENAGERS. yes millions of adults LOVED it (me included) .. teenagers thrive on drama.

bella is the new kid in a small town.. and anyone knows from a small town the new kid is always the focus, even the unlikeable ones

in a girls mind.. hmmm theres a guy who likes no one in the school.. (attutide neck goin) I'll get him.. (snap) cause I am all that a a bag of chips...lol..ok thats not right but i could not resist..

I have to agree 100% with you on this one Deb.. I HATE Bella.. ANd sadly she doesnt improve throughout the series... I did enjoy the books but had to keep reminding myself that it was written for teens... Personally I cant stand to hear her whine about everything... I told my bosss she would hate her and a couple days later she's like " OMG I cant stand her" Im like see I told you so... Keep reading the author has some redeeming qualities throughout, just wait til you get to the Vultori.... They are awesome....

It is truly depressing how quickly America has snapped up this series. I'm a teenage girl, the target audience for heaven's sakes, and though I read all 4 and saw the first movie to give it a chance I am still a devout Twilight hater. Blech.

I will keep in mind that this book is written for teenagers.

Although to be honest, the teenagers that I meet are not anywhere near as whiny as Bella.

Sorry Deb, I read a lot. And I read a lot of different kinds of books, and I just couldn't get into these. Personally, if I had a daughter, I would prefer her to read books with strong female characters, not unlikeable doormats. There are so many books out there with wonderful characters and well-written plots, that it's sad you have to waste your time on dreck.

I've read a lot of vampire sort of novels, although the recent spate of these books puzzles me, and this one simply isn't a good read. I still don't get what a 100+ year old guy would find interesting about Bella. And my favorite guilty pleasure TV is still "Buffy the Vampire Slayer".

I used to love Buffy the Vampire slayer. I have got to put the original movie on my Netflicks list. Ann Rice had an interesting take on vampires also and Stephen King's Salem's Lot was very good.

Like you I can not understand why all the male characters are so enamored of Bella. In the first book three different human guys ask her to go to a dance with them. If she was friendly or sweet, I could at least partly understand, but Bella is pretty cool toward those who try to befriend her.

I wish that Hermione Granger would pop over to Forks and beat Bella up for being annoying.
