John Wayne all the way !!!!

DH and I watched the John Wayne version two days before seeing the new movie.

ok, first, the new one is made to follow the book not John Waynes version. so that means that some is word for word and other parts are different.

I loved the new one!

In thought he honored the Character of Rooster Cogburn not John Wayne which was fine in my opinion. I really loved the end of the movie since it was made as if it were a story told by the girl when she was older.

the movie is worth going to see.

oh, and I'm old enough that I grew up watching John Wayne, so yes I love him and all his movies.

Dh and I are big John Wayne fans. We were very skeptical about the new version but liked the previews. And of course getting to see a western on the big screen was motivation too. Well, it was split. My dh and the couple we went with, loved it! I wasn't that crazy about it. Yes, its a good movie but I personally disliked the ending. It might be by the book but having seen the original hundreds of times (for real!) I liked it a lot better. The ending to the new one is just ...sad. Not really a way to end any movie, by the book or not. Jeff Bridges does do a good job. You should go see it for what it is...a western on the big screen. Don't go and compare it to the original. Nothing compares to John Wayne. Just my opinion.....

you're right, there is only one John Wayne, so go see the movie with out trying to compare it to the original. I did like the end.

I do have a question though about the end

HOW OLD DID ROOSTER COGBURN LIVE TO BE?

Rooster Cogburn was a real person, from Fort Smith, Arkansas! Kinda

Well, kinda, the real one, whom Rooster was modeled after was Cal Whitson, a one-eyed U.S. Marshall. He did the stuff acredited to the fictional character, Rooster

I thought the new one was goofy. I can't say I'm a fan at all! I would probably tell you just to skip it because there are so many better westerns to spend your time on! I was pretty disappointed, and so was my dad. The trailer looked really good and we thought the movie stunk.

Ok, so the old one is awesome, right?
You SO gotta see the new one- it's way cool.
Jeff Bridges, Hailee Steinfield and Matt Damon are fabulous!
You will not be disapointed!

DW's book club is reading the book (the original original) by Charles Portis. Remember books?

I got Hondo and McLintock on VHS and the old black and white Kirt Douglas movie, "The Lonely are the Brave" with the young Walter Mathau, and Michael Kane. It was a big hit in 1962. Must have been hard making movies with dinosaurs trying to eat everything. It's pretty funny if you haven't seen it.
