I am Zenmonkey

Oh, those quail hatched at about 89% as I recall. The regular pharoah was in the low 90s, the jumbo only a percentage point or two behind, and the button quail dragged down the average.

I gave some away, butchered some, gave away some more, sold some at the local Amish auction, butchered some..... I have one left. It escaped the cage and spent a couple days wandering the yard while the final butchering happened.

One of my cats "found" it for me. By then I was sick of butchering birds, and so it has camped out with a couple bobwhites. Side by side cages, because I don't trust bobwhites. They might live happily together for months until one day they decide to eat the poor coturnix.

Later this year I'll look at hatching more, but I haven't decided what. Maybe if MyShire farms is offering jumbo whites again?

Mostly I've not gone much because I've never had a clear idea of what I thought it would improve over a paper notebook. Except maybe you could plug in some genetics and spit out pedigree graphs? Calculate percent relatedness for line breeding?
I'll stick with the notebook. Thanks for your input! I'm mostly into keeping track of who is in Pen 1 through 7, so when I hatch I can look back at who was with who when it got laid. I stagger hatches every four days so it's hectic keeping track, but have a system down now in my spiral notebook. :) I just thought maybe I was missing the boat so glad to know I'm not!
