Last year, I hatched out a chick with a broken leg. This is the story of PATITA, the one legged chick.

Leave your questions below or in the comment section of the video and I’ll do my best to reply to all.
Thanks for watching and I hope you consider subscribing! 😊

Oh dear, it looks like the wrap was put on too tight and caused the leg to die. :hit
The leg was definitely broken to begin with.
And yes I later realized the wrap might of been to tight. So unintentionally I ended up cutting off all blood circulation to the leg which made it easy and perfect for amputation. Just for a bit of context, the broken leg was getting in the way rather than helping her walk. So for this chick, I feel amputation was the best in the end.

This happened last year, and she lived a happy life for about 7 months ,unail I had a hawk attack her and kill her and 2 other chicks. They were enclosed, but one morning , one of my kids left the enclosure open and that’s how the accident happened. 😔.

The purpose of this thread is to bring hope to someone who is goi g thru the same situation. Maybe make them think twice before culling. 🙂

Date on vid is 2019....did this bird survive?
She past away at about 7 months old. I never intended to share her story really so I didn’t take pictures . She didn’t die because of the one leg situation, she died to a hawk attack. We accidentally left the enclosure open one morning 😔

What bone was broken?

Splinting broken legs properly can be very difficult and quite often wrapping does more harm than good.

Yes, dead, or necrotic body parts are easy to remove.

From the video, I can't tell what part of the leg was broken. Where was the fracture?

Sorry for your loss.

I have some issues with this video. How did she break her leg? Chicks don't hatch with broken legs. She may have had a leg issue at hatch but unlikely that it was broken. Did she break it in the incubator? I don't understand.

its an old video and op said the chicken has passed. Not sure if it’s worth investigating.
