I bought feed at China Mart!

I'm pretty sure the OP meant Wal-Mart, not a store actually named China Mart. They stated that the food was Mana brand, which I assume is ManaPro - same stuff that they sell at the feed store.

Maybe the OP can clarify, but I'm pretty sure that they didn't mean "chicken food from china"

It might not be from china, your right, but still why is it so cheep, there are things you can add to feed to make the protein, let say 18%, but can your chickens digest it then use it? is it good for them?

1. Yes I meant Wal-Mart.

2. They can sell feed cheaper because of the volume at which they buy it. I am a gun dealer and cannot compete with WalMart on some items for the same reason. WHen they buy products by the train load, they get good prices. Far better that the small local feed store can.

3. I found it interesting that they sold feed at all! Maybe the pet chicken demographic has grown more that we thought.

Don't get used to it being there. One day you will walk in and the whole store will have changed to no longer sell feed/livestock supplies.

That does seem to happen alot. Once something isn't the "in" thing anymore or they can't get it for that price. I would also be willing to bet that you may find it in your walmart but not in someone else. I personally will still be getting it from the local mill, I like talking to the people that work there & load the feed for me.

The thought of buying feed from Walmart gives me the creeps. Seriously. I don't care what brand it is... I hate Walmart. I'll keep going to the feed store, thanks. At least there they take the time to learn my name, and most of them know what I want before I actually get to the counter.

I've been in a pinch and bought a bag of scratch for cheap at WallyWorld....everyone is still alive

Just wanted to add that it WASN'T cheaper than TSC or our feed store. But it was more convienent at that time.

Our feed stores range between 13 and 16 bucks for layer crumbles. If I can score it at 10 I will do so. Out here the ranch stores cater to the horse and cow needs. Poultry is small taters in their view.

I have no scruples or high minded moral ideals, it seems. I've purchased feed at WalMart without detriment. The chickens did fine on it, made no complaints and went on laying.

As others have noted it is made by Manna Pro, whose feeds are highly regarded. Seems like a little emotionally driven 'mart-a-phobia' has kicked in here?

Just check the "animal Protein" Whatever that stuff is, when my birds eat it their poo smells especially bad.

Our feed mill sells layer for $9 / 50 lbs cheaper than TSC, Agway and our Wallyworld does not sell any feed - too "urban" I guess.

Dont ask... *seriously*

We have a factory nearby that actually makes the protein products for livestock feed. As I said - you dont wanna know.
