I bought ladies

I was told that I bought females. I just called Tractor Supply and they said they had a lot of mix-ups this year and to call another number to return them. Well, this is the first time I have worked with chickens and after being sold 4 meat chickens, 1 dying and 2 that are probably roosters, by daughter has had a lot of tears to say the least. We probably shouldn't have tried this at all.

Anyway, can anyone confirm that the two RIR are roosters before I take them back?

Both are cocks 100%.

Unfortunately, mix ups on genders and breeds are very common in feed stores, mostly due to staff not having proper knowledge on such things.

I suggest trying a mail hatchery next time, we had great luck with Ideal Poultry & McMurry Hatchery, ordered 25 pullet chicks between the two and all we received were females. Both you can order small numbers, around 6 or 7 in the spring.

the one in the front is most definately a cock. I am not as sure about the other one, but looks pretty rooster-like to me.

Both cockerels, the long thin saddle feathers are the obvious giveaway.

Hi yes, sorry, both are cockerels. I just started this year as well. I bought my first set of chicks in June from Murray McMurray Hatchery online and received them on August 16th 2022. I have a total of 6 chickens; 2 WHITE Rocks, 2 Rhode Island REDs, and 2 BLACK Australorps. Don't give up! Try them next time. Cheers!

Cackle is also a good place to order chicks, and it's true that often feed stores mix things up. At least the store may take them back!
