I Built A Bridge!

MM Congrats on your first ‘real’customer!

Wow, you sound like me, if Joel stacks the dishwasher, I restack it!

I wondered if ‘Council’ would be understood; yep, it is our City Government. The front 4-5 metres of the property is actually Council land so it is their responsibility and their tree. For this reason, we do not have to pay anything.

Ark I love chicken TV! Good to read that Buzzy is healing. Also good to read that Miss Pecks Alot appears to have adjusted her attitude for the good; sounds like chicken jail was good for her.

Hoping you have an awesome day also .. sadly, time for me to start work

Hi folks,
MM, congrats on the customer! How funny that they don't like blue eggs there! I've had to turn my customers away - I'm starting to horde eggs for the winter.
Teila, really, none of us had any idea you had some OCD tendencies - we just thought you liked charts! ;)
I am not OCD, at least in terms of organization, as if that needed explanation after all the pics you've seen of my coop. I am a cluttered creative type, which makes the mice in my kitchen feel right at home. That doesn't keep me from rearranging the dishwasher if someone else loaded it, but I think that's attributable to some other character flaw than OCD - or maybe I have some sort of messy, spacially-challenged variety of OCD.

Second day of integration was still touchy. I really wish my broodzilla would calm down and share the coop! None of the hens have any interest in harming her babies. Even when one of the chicks carried her tiny grape football precariously close to Marsha, Marsha seemed to cheer her on, rather than try to take it. I know that it is all show and it's what they need to do to reestablish the hierarchy, but it's not fun to watch. And, I want the ladies to be able to drink some water and get to their nest!
Here is the all-powerful Broodzilla, if you look carefully, you can see Desi tiptoeing around the back:

I'm really enjoying watching the bubbies' feathers grow and change:

Lols Liz you poking fun at my charts?!

Funny you should mention “cluttered creative”. Someone on another thread had posted pictures of the inside of her friend’s house; there was stuff everywhere! You could hardly see the walls for pictures, animal heads, bear skins, plates, keys, clocks etc. There were ‘trinkets’ on every step of the stair case. Trinkets hanging off the ceiling fans. No room to put anything on or under the coffee table due to doggy statues etc. One couch had 12 cushions on it. The other couch had a microwave on it. The lamp shade had things hanging from it and pinned to it. The venetian blinds had bird ornaments, plastic fruit, plants hanging on them. The pictures are going to give me nightmares for weeks!

I am the total opposite; while I do have a few ‘bits n’ pieces/momentos’ around the place, I like free spaces; the bare essentials and no more.

I don’t think I will ever stop smiling at “grape football”! Wow, she definitely looks like she means business in that picture. *Chuckle* at Desi’s ‘tip-toeing’ foot in the background .. probably trying to step lightly and not be seen or heard

Aodrable bubby pictures!

Tina just did her peacock impersonation, signalling that she had left the eggs, giving me a chance to take a peek; all looks good. She is so funny, when she comes out for a stretch she talks the whole time and as mentioned, screeches like a peacock! I have no idea what she is trying to convey but the neighbours are probably counting down the 21 days as much as I am

Good Morning Teila,MM and LIZ,another rainy day but its slow so the chook's will enjoy it,it's a bit cooler too,i will enjoy that, thanks Teila buzzy is better,i so love her and am thankful she is doing great, her eye stayed open most of the day,so progress! as for MPA,she has a better attitude for sure,i will be using time out's in the future now that i know it works so well, lol,i hope everyone has an awesome day,i'm about to go watch chicken tv this morning, ive already been out there at 4:30 am just sitting and waiting for them to wake up,i know,im addicted so badly, poor things probably are thinkin, why is mom out there in the dark!
but with the ferel's i worry still have 2 to catch!!!!!!!!!!! any ways enjoy your day, hello to everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks all! I am excited. She wants two dozen this week… and they laid a whoppin' 3 eggs yesterday. This might be tough.

Teila, I think that is loosely the case around here as well, but perhaps not the driveway portion. I think that if they can get you to pay for it, they will. Since moving to VA, I have never had to deal with it, though.

Liz, great pics! It does look like Desi's influence is strong, huh?

I get such a kick out of these puffy noisy broodies! MJ was never loud or real puffy. Just kinda flat on the nest and a little ruffled off the nest. Mostly quiet noises and random darting like a little ninja.

I call the little not so littles ninjas these days as well. We love Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles here, and in the cartoon they run leaning forward with their arms straight back. Every time I see the chicks run, that's all I can think about!!

Before I could submit this, I have a correction to yesterday's egg count. Total of 5. Two eggs were found buried in the corner when I raked under the roosts. Sneaky Sneaky.

Hi Arkansas!! We had some pretty cool storms last night. We don't have blinds on any of our windows, so I like to sit in the dark and watch the lightning across the sky light up the room. Glad to hear Buzzy is doing well. I had a scare with my favorite hen at the beginning of summer. It is amazing how well and quickly they can heal. I know what you mean about keeping watch. I have sat under the pine trees on hawk watch before. Have a great day!

Hello everyone,

Glad to hear everyone is doing well. Things are going smooth here also.I am just wondering with all my new chicks how many little boys am I going to have to deal with?????
idunno.gif

Ark55 so great to hear you are enjoying some great times with your flock. I hope Buzzy's eye keeps getting better. I bet your pond is beautiful. I wish we would get some rain here, we are in such a drought. I know what you mean about changing names. I have had to do that also as the personality revealed itself more. Have fun watching your babies!

Teila, how is Mission Possible coming along? Lol

MistyMountain, better tell those girls to step it up if they want to eat this week. I tell my girls more eggs = more treats. The customers are waiting. It works everytime. My egg basket is not very exciting but I will take a shot soon.

Someone had asked what kind of chick assisted hatch was, all I know is she is part bantam cochin. Dad could be polish or bantam cochin. Cant wait to see what she grows up like. Still thinking of the perfect name. Do chicks that are born yellow end up white? Anyone know?

At Michaels we are gearing up for the very very busy time of year for floral. So my boss has been working us hard to get all the fall production done so we can move on to Christmas production. So next week I will be decorating Christmas trees for the store.

Ark great to read that Buzzy is much better today and her eye stayed open. I love my gals dearly and spend as much time as I possibly can with them but even I draw the line at 04:30 am
wink.png
I understand your concern regarding the feral cats though; I have been known to rush out there at all hours of the day or night if I think my gals are in any sort of trouble. This is also the reason they are only allowed to have supervised free range; it only takes a second for something to grab one
sad.png

I have also been known to be out there, rain, thunder, lightening, hail etc making sure that they are all under cover and safe.

Enjoy your chicken TV!

MM what’s the bet that if you didn’t have an order for 2 dozen, you would have eggs everywhere? These gals of ours are very sneaky!

Tina is so super-quiet on the nest, you would never know she was there but boy oh boy does she make up for it when she is off the nest! Nearly had to ask the chap who was jack hammering the driveway if he had a spare pair of industrial ear muffs
lau.gif

Talking about noisy … Blondie was in Cilla’s favourite nest box this morning. (PS. As you know, there is more than one!). Anyways, Blondie had only just laid her egg and was busy tucking it under, puffing up, growling at all and sundry; as she does with every egg for 10 minutes or so before she gives up and wanders off to find something fun to do. Cilla wanted to use the nest box .. she sang and sang and sang. She had both Joel and myself out there trying to get her to calm down and telling her to “use the other one”. Even David, my neighbour, was at the fence having a laugh at her! I did not want to disturb Blondie because she was just resting after laying but in the end, I had to take her egg off her so that she would leave the nest box. Minutes later, Cilla was in there and Blondie was under the coop having a sing song about being ‘kicked out’ … gotta love their little chickenalities!

Tee hee, I love Mission Possible! It is coming along fine; nothing to report really. Tina takes a daily break and because of the abovementioned noise, I know when that is and get to duck out and have a look at the eggs; all looks OK. As you know, I tend towards the no interference, no touch, no candle, que sara sara method so, once a day, it is just a quick peek, quick count and done
wink.png

I am definitely not an expert on colouring but I would have described blondie as yellow when she was a chick and you know what colour she turned out to be. I am probably best leaving the answer to that question up to someone with more experience.

Funny you should mention Christmas; I was just thinking yesterday how fast the year has gone by. Christmas at our place is a very low key event; just the three of us but we do cook a turkey etc. So, yep, apart from buying said turkey, I am ready

Looks like today is going to be reasonably quiet on the work-front so lots of time for me to stalk BYC!
