I Built A Bridge!

Good morning Friends! :)

How nice that we all have a bridge that we can meet up on
smile.png

16 paws, no the bridge has not floated away but as MM mentioned, I have had it for a while and I have to admit, the sun and weather have deteriorated it a tad. It still works as a nice place to meet up though
wink.png

16 paws I am so very happy for you right now; doing the yippeee-bubbies-happy-dance

You know the rules though, once Dottie and bubbies have had a chance to settle, we need proof! lol

Hhhhm, "too many chickens"; is there such a thing?

Hellooo MM, yeah, I am hoping it will be easier to keep up now also.

I reckon being 9 naughty hormonal leghorn roosters lighter has go to be a good feeling! I love that description of them. It sounds like the rehoming went pretty well and yep, sadly we cannot keep them all and as tough as it is sometimes, accept (or deny
wink.png
) some of the possibilities. While not ideal, even a 50/50 ratio on MJ's bubbies is better than some of us have been getting (our Queen of the Cockerels would most likely agree). My two hatches were 1 pullet from 5 and 2 pullets from 7. I could definitely hope for better odds next time .. yep, there is definitely going to be a next time .. the question now is not "if" but more "who" :)

Hhhhm, hubby may need some gentle persuasion as to priorities .. the 'big coop' has got to be higher on the priority list than a garage and pole barn, surely?

I do not have any news of note. The girls have had their breakfast and while we have rain and storms forecast for this morning, apparently the sun is supposed to come out this afternoon. So, the plan is, get all the inside chores done early and then once the sun is out, I am out also. Everyone is nice and dry again but Tina is still very dirty; hopefully I can get some pictures of my 'not so white' Silkie today. LuLu the droople is now looking more like a Frizzle again and Blondie's clown shoes are not so black.

It is so nice to be able to catch up with you all again

I'm here I'm here!! Hello friends!

TG! It's been a while! How is Ike doing?

Hopefully I can keep up with things again. Love the bridge Teila (though I know you have had it a while).

What's up with me? Well I am 9 naughty hormonal leghorn roosters lighter!! A young boy who is into chickens bought 8 of them from me this morning. I think he probably swapped some of them at the chicken swap today. I'm not upset, doing something I would not do. Hopefully they got a flock of their own. I sold one yesterday to a man who recently lost his old red rooster. He just wanted an alarm clock. He chose "bent toes" who has had a couple bent toes since I got him. Last I heard he was looking for a couple girls for him.

Things are happier here now, those boys really needed to go. They were not taking up coop space as they roosted in the pine tree each night-- their idea, not mine. Hopefully the single BO pullet that somehow decided sleeping with the boys was a good idea will return to the coop tonight.

The young ones and MJ are doing well. 7 weeks old now and definitely 2 of the 8 are cockerels. I am suspicious of at least one if not two more. The little girls are cute though!! I think I will keep them. My husband has been mentioning the "big coop" here and there lately. Construction soon? That would be cool. He just put a railing around our front porch. We have to replace the deck railing next and he did mumble something about building a garage and a pole barn as well

Hi MistyMountain,

Glad all your boys went off to start their new lives.I hope they all get a flock of their own. I was wondering if they were hard to catch? My little bantam roos are very flighty and hard to catch. Lucky you can sell them, around here it seems like you just have to offer them up for free. I believe it is because so many areas have restrictions on the boys.
Glad to hear mj and the littles are good. Any pictures?

Nice that your hubby is so handy. Don't know what a pole barn is but if he can build it take some pictures for us will you?

Its been pretty hot here today, the chickens are panting a little. I made them egg pops and that went over very well. I got one new baby today and am waiting on another to hatch. Seems like a slow process for this one.

Take care all!

I just wanted to do a quick check-in and say y'all are so cute!
MM, how wonderful you found someone to take those boys. I can't imagine what it was like with all of them running around.
Love the droople, Teila.
16P, get yer camera out and show us some fuzzy butts! Even if it's just one.

OK, maybe I have time for a couple pictures:
Grace and Frida, demonstrating their questionable coverage technique, which somehow seems to be working, based on the 12-day candle I did:

I was trying to get a pic of Jan's zepelin effect, but the camera kept perking her up:

And Jan again, either taunting or grooming Desi:

Grace and Frida are beautiful! The colors are so pretty. They look almost vintage. And Desi is a fine young man. He reminds me of my Americana roo I had to give up named Trousers. I miss him even thou he was mean to some of the girls.

I will try and get some pics Sunday. I picked up the egg that has pipped and I hear chirping in there! Tomorrow will be day 21.
Cant wait to see your babies Liz.

Liz, I adore the picture of Grace and Frida, so sweet!

All your girls and Desi are beautiful! Boy, he has turned into a very handsome rooster. Looking forward to seeing his bubbies. It has been a while between hatches for you.

16 paws, also looking forward to your pictures of the new bubs

I have heard from IC and she will be catching up with us soon

Working on site tomorrow to teach colleagues how to use the new 'toys' we installed for them yesterday. Luckily hubby is working from home so he will be able to ensure the girls get a free range; dinner and off to bed OK if I do not make it home on time. I have Thursday & Friday off this week; so a nice 4 day weekend coming up!

Today was a beautiful day and far made up for having to work yesterday. The sun was shining and I took the opportunity to snap a few pics of the girls enjoying their day. Sorry about the photo-bomb; I can’t help myself and my new camera has just made it worse! lol

For the Blondie fans .. she was more than happy to strike a pose for me:

Cilla was having a little nanna nap:

Dusty decided a nanna nap was a good idea (I have so many pictures of her in this spot, she loves it!):

A close up of Dusty (I was playing with the zoom lens):

LuLu, Dusty & Tina:

Tina & LuLu having some lunch (It is amazing that Tina was so dirty yesterday and today, nice and white again):

After such a nice lunch, Tina decided she needed a nap also (I love this one; she looks so sweet!):

Thank you for looking ... take care and happy chickens!

Your girls are so pretty, Teila! "Pretty" isn't even the right word. Maybe "puffilicious?" Gorgeous puffballs, each one! I especially like Dusty's little white tips on her feathers. I never noticed them before.
Grace and Frida had left one of Lucy's eggs out again this morning. I tell you, it'll either be a miracle or I have the two smartest broodies ever, if those dark eggs hatch.
I keep seeing Frida's head lodged under Grace, no doubt trying to take eggs from her. I'm sure there are folks who would say this is why one has to separate broodies. But, I'd rather let them do it together and not set up a bunch of broody nests and see what they come up with as a team. It's interesting to me that Rousseau hasn't tried to join them this time. Who knows how they work all this stuff out. I just know Grace was determined to do a hatch this year, and she was stuck as scary auntie last year, so I'm glad it's working out, at least so far. Still a week to go and and hatch and flock integration to manage! All kinds of things left to go wrong! ;)

Teila, I almost think calling them hormonal was being nice… it got a bit scary down there! I love my crowing roosters, but two is plenty now!!
Oh to the Queen of Cockerels… I do not envy your title...

LOL!! They were SUPER hard to catch. I was ten minutes late to meet up with them because I could not catch them!! The past two weeks or so they have roosted up in the pine tree next to the coop. I went out at 6:20 to catch them and it took them about 10 minutes to decide to come down out of the tree even though food was offered! I managed to get them in the run while the others were still cooped up. I caught the first easily while they were eating, but they got smart after that. It took me 30 minutes to catch them all, sometimes having the problem of "put one in and two come back out" of the box. One got out of the run so I let the rest of the flock out and stepped away a bit. When he went back into the run again the chase was on. Needless to say, after they were all caught up I was feeling the burn.

A pole barn is kind of like a barn or building with a roof and no sides. Mostly a shelter, used for hay or equipment. In our case, equipment because if we do store hay it would be for horses and can not get wet.

Can't wait to see pics of the babies!

It was crazy! Mostly they were food hogs. I seriously think I can cut my food costs in half now that they are gone. The raging hormones got to be a bit much as well. Since I am complaining about them I will also add that the crowing, not always in unison BEFORE sunrise was a bit much as well. Made me feel sorry for anyone else around who had their windows open. Ah, but they have moved on. I gave them a better life for 17 weeks than they could have had, and while I can not control their lives once they are no longer mine, I am confident at least one will live a happy life. In fact, I received a picture of him this morning, right outside his new person's door, crowing!

Now to find out who is a boy in MJ's group and find homes for them!!!

Great pics, Liz!

Gotta get outside and play some soccer with the boys. Pics, though they are not very good, will come this evening… hopefully!!

That is an amazing story!!! Someday you'll be telling your grandkids about the day you wrangled nine roosters.

And…. pictures!!
This is naughty Maud. She took to roosting in the pine with the bachelors. Bachelors are gone. Guess who still roosts in the pine?

Little Roo getting too big for his britches and challenging Cielo through the fence!
1000

One of the Cuckoo Marans. They are so soft! I don't know what it is, but they are by far the softest of my flock!
1000

Elsa and Anna. Best I could do, they are super shy.
1000

One of the Wellsummers. I think they will be the first to lay out of this group.
1000

More to come. My phone failed to upload some of my pics!

Some of the adults taking a nap in the famous pine tree.

I could not get any decent pics of the young ones during the day so when I locked them up I decided to do a sneak attack on them. Hopefully the flash didn't bother them too much!!
This one is a leghorn x SLW. Pullet. I will keep her.
1000

EE x SLW… I think this one is my maybe boy.
1000

Momma MJ and leghorn x SLW boy. He will be looking for a home in a few weeks.
1000

Ooooh. This one is my favorite. This was the little black chick. The comb looks dark red in the pic but it is really not that red at all, and super small. Small build too. I love this one. Her (and it is a her… right? right! Shhh don't tell me if it is not!!) name is Velma. My boys watched Scooby Doo today and I let them (husband included) name her.
1000

Here are the remaining four. On the right we have our other definite boy. Really pretty guy. He has the green tinted tail feathers coming in too. Next one, definite girl. Her comb is almost non-existent. I think this is one of Cleo's. Next up, pullet I think. Last one, another pullet. Unless these last two are super late bloomers. I should mention all the black and white ones are EE x SLW. It will be interesting to see what they lay.

Off to bed!! Nite all!
