It is pretty wonderful that we are able to provide knowledge and support to each other from all over the place .. always nice to know that we have someone who understands what we are going through and also there to offer a virtual hug :)

Just checking back in again ……………

Sorry Liz I did have a little chuckle at the “It was not the time for an egg sale” gees, it sure does happen all at once at your place!

How wonderful that you have Rousseau to look after your little disabled bubs; I am hoping that with yours and her love they will both come through with flying colours. She sounds like a very gentle sole so she is probably the best one to be caring for them right now.

No further news on the pip in Little Cy’s egg?

I do have news! I am now declaring Tina officially broody! She is, once again, hunkered down on those eggs and in the ‘zone’. Now to see if she sticks at it .. I am a little concerned that she has left them for longer than I am used to, but my moving her to the broody may have been the cause for that .. she is stuck fast right now!
hello,congrat's on going broody,wohoooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you arkansas55 :)

Eggs are ordered!

I am taking a chance that she sticks because if I do not order them today they would not get here in time for the weekend and I did not want them sitting in the Post Office all weekend. The breeder is going to check with the PO that if he posts them today they will be here Friday, if not, he will post some on Monday.

He is sending a mix of Belgian Bantams and Silkies with a Belgian Frizzle Rooster as their dad. He said he gets some very pretty colours so fingers crossed that 1. They all get here intact .. 2. Tina sticks it out and 3. At least one hatches and is a Frizzle Pullet!

Ok, so now I know I am NEVER going to have a drama free hatch!

Its starting already... the night before the hatch.....
I go down to the coop to close everyone in and I just happened to look over at Pancake (due to hatch tomorrow) and there was an egg she was not covering. I reached in to slip it back under her and low and behold the egg had been pecked ALL over. At first I thought the other chickens may have done it but after I started to put it under her she started pecking it! I swear it has half the shell gone. The chick inside is moving and chirping

I really dont know what to do so I stuck it under Freckles. She is my wanta be broody that I wasnt going to let sit because I have enough chickens! I have been removing her from the nest everyday but she is a determined little thing.
I wonder why Pancake would peck half the shell off of it? She is a bantam and the egg is a standard size but I dont think that would matter.
Anyone have this happen before?
I wonder if the chick can still hatch?
OMG

She might have been trying to help it out of the egg. I think that's what Rousseau was doing. Or, she might have freaked out and was attacking it. If she didn't damage the yolk sac, then it'll probably still hatch, and may even go easier. I think the little one that died hatching on Sunday had her yolk sack damaged before she could absorb it.
Sounds like a good call to give to Freckles! What would we do without back-up broodies?

That's it, cancelling my egg order!!

OK, I am kidding, but gees Louise, while the Club has had some good news, there is certainly a high level of stress also!

16 paws I am wondering along the same lines as Liz, maybe she was trying to help it?

Again, I am not going to be much help on this occasion, except for support. Cilla has never pecked the eggs to the point of breaking the shell.

Please let us know how you go.

Seen as this is Tina's first go at being a mumma, I am thinking the back-up broody is definitely the go .. if Cilla does goes broody in the next week or so, I am seriously considering giving her some 'dud' eggs and not breaking her, just in case Tina drops the ball!

Thanks Liz,
Just went down again and the egg was beside Freckles and she pecked some of the shell off it also. Its still chirping away. I hope that they are trying to help it and not hurt it. I wonder why they would be trying to help it out thou?
