I Built A Bridge!

That's it, cancelling my egg order!!

OK, I am kidding, but gees Louise, while the Club has had some good news, there is certainly a high level of stress also!
Seriously! I was just thinking, how on earth could all of this drama be making Teila think, "ooh boy, I want to order some eggs for my baby broody hen!" For every cute bubby picture you're seeing, think 5 new gray hairs on my head! Thank goodness the first 2 weeks were stress free, or I'd be in big trouble with work at the moment! Are you able to take a week off of work in about a month, Teila? ;)
But, no new drama to report here, for now. I spent some time gazing at the 6 happy healthy babies exploring the larger pen with their mamas and that helped, even if I could have sicked Reggie on Grace after what she did today. I also spent a little more time with little Frankie, who hopefully will out-grow her Frankenstein namesake. She cheerfully ate some chickstarter and posed for the camera, which I may or may not share. If her wound can heal and if I didn't blind her with the the "liquid bandage" she may do fine. She's looking in better shape than poor splayed Lu, but if I can figure out the braces, then things are looking good for her.
There was nothing new with the pipped egg as of this early evening. It breaks my heart to think a little one had made it that far with all this craziness going on around it, but I don't see it making its way out at this point. Unless I see something new in the next hour, I'm not going to move it to the new nest with Rousseau and her wards.
Take care folks, and thanks again for the support.

Lolz you gals are so funny, cracking me up!

Slapping myself in the head .. what was I thinking! Obviously I was not thinking at all!!!

Tina is sitting pretty on those ‘duds’ and I just got a text to say that her eggs are in the post! Sadly, the PO did not really know when they would be delivered, maybe Friday but it could be longer .. not happy about them sitting in the postal system over the weekend but ah well, such is life, lots of ‘what if’s’ and ‘maybe’s’ on this hatch being Tina’s first try and also my first batch from this breeder and I have since learnt, this is the first batch of eggs he has posted!

Now you mention it Liz, yeah, I do have about 8 weeks leave up my sleeve
wink.png

However, I do have to get the timing right as I am away Thursday and Friday 18th & 19th Sept (overnight on the Thurs) and while I am fine leaving Joel with a broody, not so much little bubbies. So, if I give her the eggs on Sunday AM and count that day, 21 days is the Saturday and I get home on the Friday afternoon. If they are early, they should be OK and Joel is happy to keep an eye on things; I trust him.

16 paws both of them pecking at the egg is weird! No idea what is going on there. You have done all you can for now, have a good sleep and yep, let us know how things are tomorrow.

Liz Frankie is an adorable name!

Hope you get a good night’s sleep also and tomorrow brings good news!

So arkansas55, it is nice having you in the Bridge Club .. tell us a little bit about yourself .. now, I don't mean to get all personal and be a sticky beak, more of a get to know you and your flock
wink.png

I note you have 4 x RIR pullets, 4 x Buff pullets and 1 x RIR roo ... want to share some pictures, names?

As you have probably guessed, we have all known each other for a while and pretty much know each other's chookies; not all by name though, some of us have too many to keep track
wink.png

No pressure, it is OK if you do not want to share .. just throwing down the Welcome Mat

Hey everyone, guess what I awoke to this morning (after the first full-night sleep since Thursday?) 3 bubbies in the invalid ward!!!!!!!!!!!!
I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the perfectly unzipped egg shell! I can't believe that last little chick made it! Cy looks good, maybe a little splayed, but not as bad as Lu. And, Frankie's head is almost healed!! Oh mother nature is smiling back on me!!
That's it for now, I'm not a morning person and need to deal with morning. Hope your chickie with Freckles is ok, 16P!

Yay CY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so happy for ya'll,yes it's a good day, ferel cat captured and released, huge cat, male and he growled slapped and hissed at us,he now live's on the other side of the river, whew!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I do have news! I am now declaring Tina officially broody! She is, once again, hunkered down on those eggs and in the ‘zone’. Now to see if she sticks at it .. I am a little concerned that she has left them for longer than I am used to, but my moving her to the broody may have been the cause for that .. she is stuck fast right now!

Teila, I have had broodies that I never saw leave the nest and broodies that never missed their twice a day dustbath and snack. Neither seemed to have an effect on the hatch so if Tina gets up to wander about try not to worry. I once locked the WRONG hen in the coop with the eggs for several hours...she didn't sit on them and the real mama was frantic but I had 7 of 8 hatch.

Thaks, TG! I'm still in shock! Have you ever had a chick hatch after 24 days? It would have been 24 days at the point I moved them all into the new nest. I was really about to take the egg away, but when I picked it up, I felt movement inside, so put it in the new nest along with Lu and Fankie and Rou!
Rou and Cy (I think! hard to tell Lu and Cy apart!):

I want to ask you and @ItalyChickie more about your hobble experiences. IC, I couldn't imagine tying those knots by myself, since I had enough trouble attaching a tape brace to Lu. She is really struggling with walking with it on, though. Someone had taken off the one I yesterday on her, and she was walking a bit better, but it seemed too soon so I made a new one, and she is really having trouble walking with it. Is that normal and good? It's supposed to be a hobble, right? How early did you put braces on your chicks and how quickly did you get results? Any other thoughts about it? Here's a (somewhat obscured) pic of the brace:

Cy is not splayed, because s/he ran back to Rou and away from me just fine when I tried to inspect it. I need to remember it was just hatched a few hours ago and not worry that it doesn't want to come out.

Tina is a lovely broody indeed, Teila! I hope it all works out with less drama for you!

Great-looking coop, Ark!

Looking back at some pictures, I've learned that Frankie was wounded before the big attack. If you enlarge the pic below, you can see that she was already pecked (and is much smaller than all the other chicks):

She's so tiny, she even squeezed through the 1-inch holes on the dog crate! I have since remedied that with some cardboard. She is smaller than both Lu and Cy, but has way more energy. She seems like an amazingly normal, happy, chickie, what with all that's happened.
Here are the yesterday and today shots of the wounds - my apologies if too graphic, but I'm amazed and how well it's doing with the Liquid Bandage:

And, the popular kids:
