I Built A Bridge!

Ark, you have some beautiful looking gals and of course, a very handsome Big Red. Interesting menagerie you have there; I hope you understand that I will pass on getting all gooey over the rat snake

I have sat in chicken poop, accidentally put my hand on chicken poop on the grass but, to date, I am yet to actually be pooped on!

I see you have some watermelon fans! It took my gals a little while to get used to the watermelon which they treated like a chicken-trap, but they love it now.

I agree with Liz, nice looking coop you have there!

My little menagerie consists of the 5 gals, which you obviously know about now, 2 indoor cats, 6 gold fish in two ponds and 2 x catfish.

G’Day Liz so pleased to hear you got a good night’s sleep and what started out as a wonderful morning. Welcome Cy! Also great news that Frankie is doing well; so happy right now!

I know you have told us how tiny Rou is and I have seen her in pictures next to the rest of the flock, but seeing her next to Cy, she really is a little tiny cutie!

Wow, I can see where Frankie has been pecked in that picture .. she is tiny!! Aaaw, poor little munchkin, that does look sore but the liquid bandage probably makes it look worse than it is. Doesn’t look quite so bad in the second picture; nice to read also that she is doing OK :)

TG thank you for your input on Tina’s leaving the nest; it has certainly put my mind at ease. I am used to Cilla having to be taken off the nest twice a day or she would starve to death and now I have Tina who is definitely broody but makes sure she gets up a few times a day and yep, has a dust bath, something to eat, a natter to the gals through the wire and then goes back to it. I thought maybe she was not serious but when she hunkers down on those eggs, she stays put. I am sticking with the plan to give her the fertile eggs when they arrive; she deserves a chance at motherhood.

Found Cilla hunkered down on one of Tina’s eggs yesterday afternoon but once I took the egg away she shook herself off and went for a wander. I’m thinking she is close to broody but definitely not there yet. I kinda want to not break her if she goes broody but if I leave her broody in with the flock she will probably pick on everyone more than ever before. As Tina is a much kinder soul I could put Tina back with the flock and isolate Cilla in the brooder but I do not think that would be fair to Tina, she is settled now and I do not want to mess her around. So, if Cilla goes broody I will see how she reacts to everyone else and if she goes Broodzilla, I will have to try and break her. We shall see

Anyways, I better go and get this work day on the road

.. I will definitely be checking back though, not only for updates from Liz but also 16 paws from who I hope to hear good news!!

PS...had to make the bed around Chimee this morning .. just sharing what a tough life this poor little gal has
wink.png
Check out the look she is giving me "excuse me, I was sleeping!!"

Good news is we have a little fresh out of the egg baby with Pancake! Standard size also. Remember the roo's here are bantams so this is the first standard chick that has hatched here.

Bad news is the cracked egg was dead under Freckles and there was another one in the nest with Pancake that didnt make it as well
hit.gif

I wish I knew what happened...They did not have any wounds on them at all. They were both half out of the shell. One had yolk showing and the other had blood. I noticed the one with Pancake was off to the side of the nest and that the other chickens had been in the nest with Pancake so that may of had something to do with it.I should of blocked off the nest. Maybe it got stepped on? The one in Freckles nest was still under her and none of the others could get in with her so I know it wasnt that. Of course now I am thinking I should of taken it and tried to hatch it myself but no. 1, I dont have a bator and no. 2 there is no way of knowing if it would of hatched or not.
None of the other eggs have pipped.

Like someone else said a while back "nuff said"

Liz, I am so glad everything seems to be going well. I cant believe that little one hatched at 24 days! Awesome....

Teila, so cool that the eggs are on the way. I so hope you have a very uneventful hatch if you know what I mean. Your kitty is precious. I think that is animal abuse, making the bed while they are trying to sleep, the nerve of some people!

Your broody shot is adorable by the way, she looks serious as a heart attack.

Stay tuned for more news soon.

Marie

Congrats on the bubby! I'm so sorry about the two chicks who didn't make it out of the egg. I know how hard that one was for me. I think it's likely that the yolks of your one and mine got crushed by the others while they were still unhatched. The one with Freckles maybe had started bleeding when it was getting pecked. That is just a guess. I think blocking off the nest is pretty important, at least until everyone is hatched.

16 paws wooo hoooo, congratulations hon; lovely pictures!

So sorry to read of your losses though
sad.png

Yeah, it would be good if we knew what happened in these cases but sadly, sometimes we just do not know.

Yep, I am lucky Chimee does not now how to use the phone, she would be reporting me ASAP for that level of abuse

Oh dear, those adventurous little munchkins can find the smallest escape route! I can see why Sophia has been named Sophia Loren

Hoping all those families do not cause you too much angst and definitely please keep in touch with all the news and of course pictures. With all that you have going on, I think you have a perfect excuse; do not be so hard on yourself!
