I Built A Bridge!

Back tracking a little as I missed some posts in the excitement!

TG thank you, once again, for your thoughts and kind words regarding my sister .. yep, it will be amazing if she does get to walk again; all signs appear positive.

Julie’s tail is so funny! I initially thought it was a feather on the ground and not attached to her

Your bubbies are gorgeous!

Go Beakface! Go Beakface!
big_smile.png

Liz I did not pick up on TG downsizing but also giving Beakface eggs … I read, Cochins, bantams, broody and eggs and got excited! Lol

Sorry to hear you have been a bit under the weather; those mild bugs seem to be the one’s that stick around longer and cause more havoc. The big bugs flatten us and we rest and probably get better sooner whereas we try and battle through the mild bugs and they linger.

Aaaw, that is a bit mean of Grace calling the bubbies over and then pecking them!! Bettina continues to sound adorable; such a sweet sweet soul.

Lols at the goofy and serious group shots … gorgeous! Love the Team Rousseau and Aunty Marsha shots!

Nice felfie with gals in the background and a beautiful smile!

MM always in our thoughts .. never forgotten!

Aaargh at your tree dwellers!!

Sorry to hear about Curly but good to know it was not serious. I have read that combs bleed profusely and can look heaps worse than they actually are.

That is a lovely scenic picture of you and the boys.

Blondie news: The wobbler and the pip with not the same egg. Just ducked out for a quick listen and may have heard a muffled peep but that could just be wishful thinking. Blondie is doing a lot of fidgeting and talking but I didn’t get to see anything. Lunch time is in 45 minutes so hopefully I will have a bit longer to spend looking and hopefully have some news.

We have peeping!!

Sorry, that's all I got! lol. Blondie is being so very very protective and I do not want to upset her by messing with her too much so, this time, I am going to have to be very patient and leave her to it. I do not think she will be as happy about me taking a peek as Tina and Cilla were

Woohoo on the peeping!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

And thanks for pointing out the tail-feather on TG's photo of Julie! I was so confused!! Yes, TG, that's a pretty hilarious tail!

Just got back from a brainstorming meeting I organized to try to figure out how to keep our group-feed orders going, now that the organization that had been sponsoring it is going to stop. Some farm-people are definitely more challenging than others, but it was a nice evening over all.

Blondie Update:

I got a quick glimpse of a little black and yellow bubby and Joel reckons he saw a black one but that was it for today. I was talking to Blondie really nicely and asking her if she would like me to take the empty shells away but she was not having a bar of that! She did, however, quite happily take a couple of meal worms off my hands!

Maybe tomorrow we will know more

Edited to Add: I was chatting in the Aussie Thread and mentioned in there also that I had left the empty shells. One of the breeders mentioned that she always takes them away because she had one poor little chick who had pipped it's shell only to find another shell over it. The empty shell had encased it during all the shuffling and prodding from mum!

Never even thought of that possibility!! Anyways, out I went with the torch and got rid of those shells! While feeling a little guilty for disturbing them at night, I did get a quick look at the bubs; 1 x black and 1 x black and yellow .. sooo tiny!

Copped a couple of nips for my trouble .. made sure Blondie was settled and bubs tucked up nice and warm and then left them in peace to sleep.

Anyways, just a heads up in case anyone else had not heard of that possibility.

Yay for 2 bubbies, Teila! Looking forward to pics! Sorry, you'll have to risk more pecks from Blondie for the good of the club!

Lovely basket, MM! Are those dark ones Marans eggs? They look like Lucy's egg - at least how I remember Lucy's eggs looked!

I do have two cuckoo marans, but neither have much in the wat of comb or wattle development or color. These are speckled. I believe they are from wendy the wellsummer. She does the talkin', squats, and has a super red comb and wattles. I have yet to catch her in the box, though. She was in the coop late yesterday fussing about elsa being in the preferred nest box.

MistyMountain,

Nice shot of you and the boys.I bet they are a real handful in a good way. What are their ages again? What a beautiful backdrop. Your egg basket is also very pretty. I love those dark brown eggs.

Teila,
Congratulations on the newbies!!!!

Cant wait to hear about the others. Thanks for the advice about removing the shells, that makes sense. Looking forward to seeing pictures.

Liz, thanks for the selfie, very pretty. Love seeing who I am talking to.
I dont know how you get your chickens to sit still. Mine are always moving and when I come around with the camera they just get all hyper and expect treats. They are never mellow like the shots you got Liz. Mine act like they are on speed or something, lol, they are always zooming around! Anyway, I love the pictures.

In my news, my black silkie Magic has gone broody. I think she laid maybe 3 eggs and then went broody. Tommysgirl, it looks like you and I are expecting around the same time again.

Cant resist giving her a couple of eggs, She is so cute! There is no hope for me.

Penny my Jersey Giant has decided she wants to be a mama again also but I am going to break her. She is a broody machine and didnt I just say enough is enough?????? At least this isnt hatching with 2 broodies again so I am doing a little better. haha

MM love that egg basket!

16 paws wooo hoo more bridge bubbies!! What eggs did you give to Magic?

Sorry, no pics as yet as Blondie is still sticking tight on the nest. Still only two bubs that I can see which, as you know, hatched yesterday. Technically, the others are due today or tomorrow.

How long will I be OK to leave Blondie on the nest? As far as I know, the last drink she had was yesterday before lunch and I am pretty sure she has not moved since then. She will not accept water that I try and offer, even in a small container, as she thinks it is there to take her bubs!

Do you think she will move when the time is right or should I move her and check what is going on with the 3 remaining eggs? She was given all 5 on the same day (Thursday) but the first two hatched on Tuesday?

Most of my hatches have all happened on the same day or over two days but within a 24 hour period. Not sure what to do if this stretches out longer than today?

I think my broodies stayed super tight on the nest from pip to majority hatch - probably 3 days. Personally, I'd say she knows what she's doing, though I don't appreciate her not letting her fans see the bubs!
